It’s the K-pop gem IU has made her comeback, and we are up for the challenge of picking up the best of the best. The Winning is IU’s sixth mini album, consisting of a five-track discography.
In an exclusive interview, IU talks about her inspiration behind the making of “The Winning.” IU shares that creating the album is more on the side of peace and ease. She finds it close to her heart, and that’s why it was a breeze.
“I was less emotionally challenged while I was working on this album. This album naturally guided me, so I loved the time I spent working on it,” IU says.
“[It’s] because I didn’t have to squeeze my creative juice or be under stress,” IU added.
IU also finds the album a reflection of her life experiences, as she now lives in her 30s and has wanted to stay at that age for a long time.
“The 30s is the perfect age for me. I felt this naturalness I never felt when I was in my teens and 20s…this congenialness I feel a lot,” IU shared.
“My plans got twisted, however, I’m clearly bringing up different messages from the messages I told in my 20s…now I’m in my 30s so I consider that this process itself is putting a mark on my 30s,” she added.

Shopper
The first track in the album is “Shopper,“ which conveys the message of beating against all odds to reach a goal. This lead song’s music video stars Korean R&B rapper DPR’s Ian. Only a day after its initial release, the MV garnered over 3 million views on YouTube.
Holssi
A dainty and cute touch for the album is “Holssi.” Its upbeat tune creates a light and vibrant effect for the track. The song also shares a music video with IU’s favorite cartoon character, Tweety, from Looney Tunes.
Shh..
It is a complete package of big-time collaboration. The song “Shh..” features HYEIN of New Jeans, Joe Won Sun, and Patti Kim. It truly is a powerful song, as it brings Korean music’s sought-after vocalists together.

Love Wins All
Leading the list is IU’s track, “Love Wins All.” Following the success of this “All Kill ” song, it garnered a staggering 34,595,177 views during its first week. Its mellow and romantic nature will surely make you feel like IU’s storytelling is more than just the music.
I Stan U
We stan IU for this, as “I Stan U“ showcases her wide-range vocals in this track. It celebrates empowering self-love and embracing your potential for doing great things.
Meanwhile, IU now bags the top spot on the global scale as The Winning debuts number one on Melon’s Top 100 and Hot 100 charts.
