MONSTA X returns stronger than ever, solidifying their identity as THE X in the music industry—a symbol of endless possibilities, a decade of unique sound, and unwavering charisma.

Celebrating their 10th anniversary, MONSTA X made a grand return on September 1 with their highly anticipated mini album, THE X.

The six-track album reflects MONSTA X’s legacy and forward-looking spirit. During the comeback talk live held on YouTube, members shared anecdotes behind each song. Jooheon called working with longtime favorite producers “an honor” and praised one track’s playful energy, while Shownu even demonstrated its “killing part” choreography.

The spotlight was on the title track “N the Front,” with Kihyun declaring, “We are the standard,” highlighting that even the vocal line rapped this time. Playful jabs at Shownu’s rap practice and more behind-the-scenes stories fueled comeback excitement.

Other tracks further showcase their artistry, including I.M’s self-composed “Savior,” Jooheon’s “Tuscan Leather,” and Hyungwon’s “Fire & Ice.” As Shownu explained, the title THE X symbolizes both “the unknown” and “10,” which is a tribute to their decade-long journey and future plans.

MONSTA X THE X Tracklist

“Do What I Want”

“Do What I Want” is a pre-release track that channels MONSTA X’s trademark bravado, with JOOHEON spearheading as lyricist and composer, and I.M sharpening the edges with his lyrical touch. The result? A track that’s a bop through and through.

From the very first beat, the intro grabs you by the collar and refuses to let go. Their charisma bleeds through the lyrics, setting the tone for what feels like a confident declaration of identity. Layered with the sultry smoothness of the vocal line, the song urges you to stay locked in until the very end.

The chorus, undeniably catchy, seals the deal— pushing the groove into full swing and making it impossible not to move along. It’s a track that captures MONSTA X at their most self-assured and magnetic.

“N the Front”

With “N The Front,” MONSTA X doesn’t just drop another comeback single— they stake a claim. The track feels like a battle cry, a declaration to move forward without retreat. The music video drives this home from the very first frame, flashing the message BE REAL U, LET THE GROUND SHAKE like a call to arms.

Make the ground shake, bring the earthquake
Feel the floor crack, we are not fake

From there, the group unleashes a performance that’s equal parts fierce and magnetic; every beat matched with razor-sharp choreography. One standout moment places the members among children in taekwondo uniforms. This is a striking image that blurs innocence with resilience, leaving viewers both curious and captivated.

Personally, “N The Front” feels like a MONSTA X title track that isn’t entirely like MONSTA X. And honestly, that’s what makes it so fascinating.

It’s a fresh image, a new sound, yet the DNA of the group still runs through it. The intensity, the commanding presence, and that unshakable charisma screams MONSTA X, even as the production and styling lean into uncharted territory. It’s almost like watching the group reinvent themselves while reminding us that reinvention has always been part of their code.

“Savior”

The next track, “Savior,” comes straight from the creative pen of the group’s youngest member, I.M. Written and composed by him, with JOOHEON co-writing the lyrics, it stands as one of the mini album’s most distinct cuts— a magnetic earworm that feels both playful and haunting.

The lyrics, “My last confession, you’re my obsession,” carry a seductive weight, evoking imagery of the group draped in dark Grim Reaper silhouettes, echoing the same soul-snatching charisma they’ve perfected onstage.

“Savior” didn’t come easy. In a Rolling Stone interview, KIHYUN admits it went through multiple drafts before landing on its final form. The payoff? One of MONSTA X’s most vocally demanding tracks yet. Though I.M drops a rap, he actually built the song around the vocal line, pushing his members into new, thrilling ground.

“Tuscan Leather”

“Tuscan Leather” feels engineered for the fandom as much as it is for the charts. JOOHEON’s opening throat clear is a wink; an inside signal that something iconic is about to drop. When the chant-like hook hits, “We’re 1 for the M, 2 for the X,” it’s more than a lyric, but a coded cheer for Monbebes around the globe.

It’s a 90s hip-hop nostalgia dressed in MONSTA X’s signature charisma, the kind of song that begs to be experienced live with a crowd echoing every word. More than just a bop, it’s a reminder that MONSTA X know exactly how to turn their music into a shared moment of joy.

“Catch Me Now”

“Catch Me Now” stands out as one of the album’s most performance-ready tracks, blending funky basslines with yearning melodies that feel made for the stage. The members’ airy falsettos soar while JOOHEON and I.M anchor the track with sharp, punchy rap verses, creating a dynamic push-and-pull that keeps listeners hooked.

Placed near the album’s close, the song acts as MONSTA X’s playful invitation to dive headfirst into their world. It’s the kind of track that leaves listeners begging; catch us now, because we’re falling deeper into the abyss of MONSTA X’s perfection.

“Fire & Ice”

“Fire & Ice” is a personal favorite, not just because it’s written and composed by HYUNGWON, but for its majestic sound that feels like wandering through a youthful Korean drama. The track nods to late ’80s–early ’90s New Jack Swing while keeping MONSTA X unmistakably current. Its smooth R&B groove blends with the group’s soaring vocals and sharp rap, crafting a nostalgic-yet-fresh sound that’s both playful and powerful.

Softly euphoric yet brimming with passion, “Fire & Ice” closes THE X like a love story in full bloom. Opposites collide, sparks fly, and you can’t help but be swept away. This is MONSTA X at their most magical, leaving fans grinning, swooning, and hitting repeat.
