Dagundong

As the lead track of the group’s first full-length album, IsaPuso, “Dagundong” makes a resounding statement. Translating to “rumbling” in English, the song opens with roaring rap verses. Paying deep attention to every word, the song compellingly recounts the Philippines’ history of colonization.

Specifically, the lines in the chorus that go “dahil pusong mandirigma, ‘di papakutya, ‘di papapugong. Pusong mandirigma, ‘di papadikta,” boldly declare that Filipinos are born warriors, ever ready to defend the Mother Land.

Dong-Dong-Ay

“Dong-Dong-Ay” is also a part of the IsaPuso album. This heartfelt rendition of the Kalinga folk song with the same name serves as a poignant letter to the Filipino youth. The song exemplifies the timeless beauty of simplicity. The lyrics are straightforward, evoking the nostalgic warmth of a sunset.

Through this track, ALAMAT channels a powerful message of hope for the future of the Philippines, resonating with Dr. Jose Rizal’s enduring words: “Ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan.” As per ALAMAT, “susi ng kinabukasan ay nasa ating mga kamay.” (The key to our future is in our hands.)

Manila Dreams

“Manila Dreams” is a cheerful and retro-inspired track that captures the pulsating life in Manila. With its programmed drums and smooth harmonies, the song is a delightful nod to the past, resonating deeply with young dreamers trying to chase their dreams in the Philippines’ capital city.

This Independence Day, ALAMAT’s “Manila Dreams” is a powerful symbol of the freedom to dream and the courage to forge new beginnings. It beautifully embodies the spirit of hope and resilience, mirroring the nation’s history of striving to achieve one shared dream: independence.

abkd

ALAMAT‘s “abkd” stands as an inspiring anthem of perseverance, self-belief, and unwavering faith in overcoming life’s challenges. The song’s stirring lyrics urge listeners to face obstacles head-on, underscoring self-worth and determination.

The catchy chorus breaks down “abakada” into messages about achieving goals, breaking barriers, fulfilled days with Bathala, and embracing hope. This serves as a compelling reminder that we hold the reins to our own destiny. Particularly, “abkd” inspires listeners to rise above adversity and believe in their potential.

Ang Galing DITO

“Ang Galing DITO” might have been an advertisement by the telecommunications company, DITO Telecommunity, but the song boasts a deeper message. The song echoes the heartbeat of a nation, quite literally and beautifully at that.

Not only did the ALAMAT members include their local languages in the rap verses, but also sang of how every Filipino, from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, has world-class talent.

But it’s not just about the music. The music video for “Ang Galing DITO” highlights the richness of Filipino culture. From showcasing our national treasures to honoring traditional attire and craftsmanship, every frame is a tribute to the resilience and creativity that define us as people.

And as we celebrate Independence Day, the song becomes a rallying cry for unity, echoing the strength and brilliance of the Pearl of the Orient’s sons and daughters.

Happy Independence Day, Pilipinas!
