10 Romance Anime Series That Will Premiere This July 2026

The upcoming summer 2026 anime season begins this July, complete with a whole slew of new and returning romance anime series that will touch your heart in more ways than one.

July usually marks the start of the summer anime season, and the 2026 edition is looking to be very romantic. From sequels to new shows, the summer 2026 anime season is chock-full of romance animes, each more heartwarming than the next.

What’s even better is that some of the best romances to premiere this July will delve into other genres, too. There are the usual slice-of-life favorites like Hana Kimi and You and I are Polar Opposites, both returning for their second seasons, and fantasy epics like Goodbye, Lara and Red River. It’s definitely looking to be a heart-thumping anime season ahead!

You and I Are Polar Opposites Season 2

Coming back for a second season, You and I Are Polar Opposites was one of the big romantic hits during the winter 2026 season. It stood out for its largely unfussy comedy amidst a season filled with dramatic shoujo series. The main couple, the outgoing Miyu Suzuki and the very quiet Yusuke Tani, even confessed their love to each other on the first episode, which usually happens at the finale of similar shows.

Fans and critics alike agree that You and I Are Polar Opposites works because it focuses as much attention on a couple’s friendship as it does on their romance. Despite being complete contrasts of each other, Miyu and Yusuke still find a connection to grow their bond.

Premiere date: July 5, 2026

Hana Kimi Season 2

Hana Kimi is a classic early 2000s shoujo—teenaged Mizuki Ashiya disguises herself as a boy to attend the same all-boys’ school as her idol athlete, Izumi Sano. You don’t find outlandish plots and storylines like this in anime and manga anymore, which is probably for the better. With that said, the 2026 anime adaptation stayed faithful to the original 1996 manga, complete with some of the problematic tropes that ran rampant in shoujo at the time.

You’d think such a show would be canceled after one season, but Hana Kimi is set to return for its second installment this July. Old and new fans alike enjoy this tinge of early 2000s nostalgia, despite its cringiest and highly questionable moments.

Premiere date: July 2, 2026

Love Unseen Beneath the Clear Night Sky

With very little hype around it, Love Unseen Beneath the Clear Night Sky has the potential to be the sleeper hit of the summer 2026 anime season. And it’s bound to be one of the most romantic, too. The series tells the story of an introverted university student, Kakeru Sorano, who befriends schoolmate Koharu Fuyutsuki, who happens to be blind.

Kakeru falls in love with Koharu despite her condition, and he decides to take care of her while they spend time at university. What’s even more heart-wrenching is that Koharu dreams of seeing fireworks, and Kakeru aims to fulfill her wishes against all odds.

Premiere date: July 6, 2026

Red River

This iconic shoujo manga ran from 1995 to 2002, and it took about 24 years after it ended for it to finally have an anime adaptation. Fans have been waiting for Red River for decades, so expect it to be one of the most buzzed-about shows this summer 2026 season.

The series tells the story of Yuri Suzuki, a modern-day Japanese schoolgirl who gets transported to the ancient Hittite Empire. Queen Nakia summoned her to become a human sacrifice, as her blood is the key element in placing a curse on the empire’s princes, which will allow her own son to succeed the throne. Yuki escapes Queen Naki’s clutches, goes on all sorts of adventures, and falls in love with Prince Kail.

Premiere date: July 8, 2026

Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You

Some episodes of Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You are already up on Crunchyroll, but its official premiere is on July 9, 2026. These first releases are spliced, ten-minute clips of the show’s first six episodes, a move that has caused controversy among fans. Many believe that this unorthodox drop spoils what could have been an underrated hit of the summer 2026 anime season.

The series stands out as one of the very few romance anime in recent years that center on an adult couple. 45-year-old businessman, Sasaki, enjoys cigarette breaks with a mysterious woman, Tayama, who’s a 24-year-old supermarket employee. Featuring such mature themes and a relatively wide age gap, anime fans are intrigued about where this unique romance anime will go.

Premiere date: July 9, 2026

Goodbye, Lara

After Hayao Miyazaki’s adorable Ponyo in 2008, anime will finally see another, similarly creative adaptation of the Hans Christian Anderson fairytale, The Little Mermaid. Just in time for the studio’s 15th anniversary, Kinema Citrus is releasing an anime original, Goodbye, Lara, complete with 90s-style animation.

The titular Lara is a mermaid princess who gets tricked into drinking a potion that turns her into bubbles instead of a human. 200 years later, she is reborn in Japan’s famous Lake Biwa, where she encounters a high school girl, Mari Otsu, and stays with her and her family as she tries to find true love.

Premiere date: July 6, 2026

The Oblivious Saint Can’t Contain Her Power

Saintess and villainess stories have become extremely popular in anime and manga, especially when it comes to romantic fantasy. The Oblivious Saint Can’t Contain Her Power is another that’s set to premiere this summer 2026 anime season, and it’s pretty standard as far as its story goes.

A prominent duke has two daughters: Flora and Carolina. Since the more beautiful and sociable Flora is a candidate to become the next saint, her plainer and more introverted sister is sent to marry the second prince of the neighboring kingdom to improve diplomatic relations. Once there, both her husband and new home discover that Carolina may be the actual saint after all.

Premiere date: June 30, 2026

Victoria of Many Faces

Equal parts romantic fantasy and spy thriller, Victoria of Many Faces stands out as one of the most unique romance anime to premiere this July 2026. Its protagonist, Chloe, who served as a spy for the Hagl Kingdom’s secret organization, fakes her death and escapes to the Kingdom of Ashby, where she intends to live as a civilian. She changes her name to Victoria Sellers and, in her first few moments there, adopts an abandoned little girl and names her Nonna.

The romance starts when Jeffrey Asher, a prominent knight and second son to a noble family, notices and helps Chloe through the incident. With his help, “Victoria” settles into a more peaceful life as a single mother in Ashby, all while staving off assassins and her former colleagues from the organization.

Premiere date: July 8, 2026

The Ogre’s Bride

For fans of Japanese folklore and romantic fantasy, The Ogre’s Bride might just be for you! In a world where monsters not only coexist with humans but are even encouraged to enter inter-species marriages with them, high school student Yuzu Shinonome is unfairly treated by her parents and younger sister, Karin. The latter feels she’s superior to her big sister since she’s engaged to the son of a prominent fox spirit family.

After an intense argument with Karin and her arrogant fox spirit fiancé, Yuzu runs away and bumps into Kiryuuin Reiya, the next head of the Kiryuuin ogre clan, the highest-ranking ayakashi. He then discovers that the human girl is his destined partner, and thus becomes engaged to her, much to the chagrin of those around them.

Premiere date: July 5, 2026

I Want to Love You Till Your Dying Day

Pride Month may be over, but anime has one last girls’ love anime to get excited about: I Want to Love You Till Your Dying Day. This dark fantasy yuri features Sheena Totsuki, a 14-year-old orphaned girl living in a school that raises them to be magical weapons of war. One day, after grieving the mysterious disappearance of her roommate, she encounters a bloodied but cheerful girl named Mimi Kagari.

Sheena eventually discovers that not only is Mimi her new schoolmate, but she might be the school’s secret weapon, as she is seemingly unable to die. This then leads to a lesbian romance that’s both touching and toxic, but undoubtedly entertaining, too.

Premiere date: July 7, 2026

July marks the beginning of the summer 2026 anime season, and this upcoming roster surprisingly has many notable romance series. From slice-of-life to fantasy, anime fans are in for a lot of love!
