Their writing session took place during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic. Because they could not meet in person, the pair worked together through Zoom. Derek sent Em three instrumental ideas before their session, and they immediately began building the song around them.
“It was a very therapeutic session that I have only replicated once before,” Em recalls.
