Dash Hammerstein, an NYC-based composer and singer-songwriter, has released his new single, “Noise Machine.”
Inspired by fake rain sounds, Dash Hammerstein got candid about his reliance on his white noise app to fall asleep. His seemingly simple song also showcased his preference of artificial over real (in terms of sounds). Even when it’s raining outside, he opted to close the windows and listen to rain sounds from an app.

For his latest track, the left-of-center indie folk pop artist collaborated with Michael Sachs, who arranged and performed the song’s brass and woodwinds. These warm, slightly off-kilter elements pull from White Album-era Paul McCartney and vintage musical hall records. Consequently, these add playful yet nostalgic texture that contrasts with the song’s contemporary theme.
Aside from Sachs, Jordi Nus contributed string arrangements while Alden Harris McCoy added guest guitar. These additions subtly expanded the track’s sonic palette.
Hammerstein shared that he recorded and mixed the entire song himself across a handful of Brooklyn studios, leaning into a hands-on, DIY approach that mirrors the song’s intimate feel.
Beyond his work as a recording artist, Hammerstein is also an accomplished producer, music director, and sound engineer. His compositions and scores have appeared in projects across platforms like HBO, Hulu, Netflix and PBS, underscoring his versatility across both film and television.
Furthermore, his previous neo-classical releases and Kinks-inflected folk pop albums have found a life beyond streaming. These landed placements in international commercial campaigns. Global brands such as Adidas and Toyota have tapped Hammerstein’s work.
Along with “The Hammer,” “Noise Machine” forms part of Dash Hammerstein’s upcoming self-titled album. The record is described as a collection born from a period of newfound creative sobriety and experimentation.
Dash Hammerstein, the album, will be released worldwide on February 13.
