UK-based singer Cormac enters a new creative era with the release of his latest single, “Defenceless,” on January 16. This single signals a clear move away from covers and classical crossover music, placing his focus firmly on original pop and personal storytelling.
Having shared his voice online from a young age, Cormac has spent years shaping his sound and finding what works for him as an artist. With “Defenceless,” he embraces that growth. The single shows where he is now, both musically and emotionally, and sets up what comes next.

“Defenceless”
Written as Cormac focused on original material, “Defenceless” explores the uncertainty of being a teenage boy today. The song reflects self-doubt, emotional openness, and the pressure to seem strong while still figuring things out.
Co-written with Henry Maybury and producer Jon Cohen, the track focuses on vocals and lyrics. Meanwhile, the production is simple and understated, letting the emotion come through naturally. The single has already gained recognition in the songwriting community. It finished as a runner-up in the Unsigned Only Songwriting Competition and reached the finals of the UK Songwriting Contest. About Cormac
In 2020, at 11 years old, Cormac signed a one-album deal with Decca, giving him early exposure to the music industry. By 12, he was already releasing music independently. However, that early success also created expectations of a classical future, which no longer fits who he is today.
Instead of letting that story define him, Cormac faced it head-on. Since then, he has been rebuilding his sound, audience, and creative direction—on his own terms. This includes retraining algorithms that still link him to his earlier work.
Although staying in a familiar lane would have been easier, growing up changed his musical tastes. At the same time, he values the music that gave him early recognition. Now, he focuses on writing and performing songs that feel honest and current.
Based in Lancashire, Cormac is developing his own voice. His goal is to return to major stages, including the London Palladium and the Royal Albert Hall, with music that reflects who he is today.
