On January 16, “Beat Yourself Up” officially dropped on all platforms. Following the heart of his previous release, this addition brings back the catchy instrumental but with an emotional twist.

The track was co-produced by Charlie Puth and BLOODPOP, with whom he has also worked with for the majority of his new album. In addition to the song, a music video directed by Hunter Moreno is scheduled for release in the coming days.

Behind the Track: “Beat Yourself Up”

Please don’t beat yourself up
Know you made some mistakes
But you know it means something when you live one more day

When asked about his inspiration for the song, Charlie shared how it began as a message to a friend. Like most friendships, they weren’t ones to have heart-to-hearts. The singer-songwriter expressed his sincere feelings through what he does best — music.

I wanted to tell him that even though he has made mistakes along the way, he shouldn’t be so hard on himself. That things will get better and he’s not alone.

As he wrote the song, he realized how its message could resonate with many others, including himself. In a world where a simple mistake is often seen as the final straw, “Beat Yourself Up” reminds us to keep going and be kinder to ourselves.
