Awich cements her global rise with the release of Okinawan Wuman, showcasing her cross-cultural hip-hop vision while earning major milestones, high-profile collaborations, and a rapidly expanding international audience.

On November 21, Awich, Japan’s reigning hip-hop queen, dropped her latest album, Okinawan Wuman. The fierce focus track “Fear Us,” featuring powerhouse collaborators Joey Bada$$ and RZA, headlines the record. Fans can dive into the full album now.

Moreover, Okinawan Wuman fuses American and Japanese hip-hop, pairing Awich’s sharp, versatile delivery with RZA’s unmistakable production style. The project also serves as her tribute to the American hip-hop that shaped her while growing up in Okinawa.

Looking back on the album’s creation, Awich shared the following thoughts:

I was born and raised in Okinawa, a crossroads of cultures, histories, and survival. A place that’s long been a hidden intersection between Japan and America—shaped by U.S. occupation and still carrying the heavy weight of military bases today. The Abbott, RZA, returned to the soil of Asia—the ground that sparked Wu-Tang—with deep respect, passing down gems that became the foundation of this album.

To add, she explained that while the world rushes forward, she chose to move deliberately, crafting this project to fulfill a story she has held close since she was young. With this album, she hopes to inspire a revived sense of unity—across cultures, across nations, and across every divide that keeps people apart.

Furthermore, the album brings together striking collaborations with Joey Bada$$, Westside Gunn, 454, and MIKE. Along with earlier releases featuring Ferg and Lupe Fiasco on “Butcher Shop” and “Wax On Wax Off.” Furthermore, Awich drives her bold mission to connect Japanese and American hip-hop, pushing creative limits. She advances her rise to global prominence and opens doors for the next wave of artists.

More About Awich

Growing up in Okinawa, Awich—short for “Asia Wish Child”—chose a name that embodies her passions and identity. She released her debut EP Inner Research in 2006, then moved to Atlanta. This is where she created her first full album in 2007. After returning to Japan, she underwent a period of intense self-reflection that reshaped her understanding of life, love, and forgiveness.

Her comeback album Queendom topped Apple Music Japan in 2022. Followed by sold-out shows, a national Zepp tour, and the release of THE UNION in 2023. That same year, she headlined her first arena show at K-Arena Yokohama. Through each milestone, she strengthened her position as one of Japan’s most significant hip-hop voices.

In addition, Awich has steadily expanded her global reach, becoming the first Japanese rapper to perform at Coachella. She also forges genuine connections within the US music scene. She remains committed to honoring hip-hop’s worldwide influence while carving her own path. With more than 2.1 million followers, she continues to grow her presence across Southeast Asia, especially in Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.
