Renowned for her jazzy grooves and R&B flair, Singaporean singer-songwriter Alicia DC unveils a deeply emotional side in her latest single, “If Only I Could.”
“If Only I Could” is a heart-wrenching track that marks a significant departure from the usual style of Alicia DC, delving into themes of love and loss. Followed by a raw, acoustic sound, Alicia DC’s new song is truly unique.
Alicia DC is no stranger to musical experimentation. Her discography showcases a variety of styles, from the pop-centric tracks of her second EP, Lovergirl, to the electronic vibes of her single ‘Bridges’. Now, with ‘If Only I Could’, Alicia explores the pain of missing a lost lover, whether an ex or someone who has passed away.
“The words in this track [‘If Only I Could’] are simple, but the harmony is constantly twisted, just like how saying ‘I Miss You’ seems easy but actually carries a lot of hidden grief, regret, and yearning,” Alicia shared.
“This song is about that difficult, heavy feeling and trying to move on from it,” she added.
To achieve a more immersive experience, Alicia DC’s ‘If Only I Could’ incorporated foley sounds and fingerstyle guitar into the arrangement. She drew inspiration from artists like dodie and Lizzy McAlpine, aiming to create a poignant and raw auditory journey.
