Ski Team New EP Islands

Can’t get enough of Me by Ski Team? Experience the refinement and grounding of her latest EP, Islands, with its lush, stunning harmonies!

Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter and producer Lucie Lozinski, known by her solo moniker Ski Team, is back with her lush, stunning, and harmonic new EP, Islands, released on January 22. The EP features the beautifully layered song, a hymn that serves as the perfect counterpart to her recently released indie pop single, “Me.”

I wrote “Islands” while producing “Me”—the bass sounded like crickets, and I started looping it and singing over it. The improvised melody and harmony had something so sweet and somber about it. Then we just rapid fire layered harmonies, all unplanned, just whatever I felt like singing. I think that improvised spirit of listening and just doing what feels right—whatever comes out—is what makes this song so special. There was very little planning and designing it. I just sang a song from the soul into the mic, and you can feel that.

Ski Team explains that while Me is shiny and layered with effects, “Islands” is raw and organic—both in its sound and production—yet they both exist in the same universe. Additionally, Ski Team worked with producer Daniel Knowles (Sharon Van Etten, Cigarettes After Sex) on this EP.

Ski Team’s Previous Single Me

“Me” was an experimental downtempo indie pop track where Ski Team teamed up with producer Daniel Knowles, her brother Ian Lozinski, and saxophonist Matt Podell, whom she met on Hinge. Instead of dating, the two decided to collaborate on creating this intoxicating musical offering.

The song is about the struggle of adjusting someone’s role in your life, or your own role to them, and giving up control in that process. I guess it’s about realizing if you have to assign roles, maybe it’s not as special as you think. And like challenging this idea of roles being the whole of someone’s identity. It’s scary to not know who’s on your roster, or who you are without a particular person/job/trait/whatever, and just go forth into life’s abyss as a human, but it’s often better for everyone involved to get on with it. Pick yourself up, focus on yourself, and let everything and everyone else kind of settle around you.

Behind the Ski Team’s Songs

Lucie Lozinski, also known as Ski Team, is recognized for her yearning lyrics, crystalline voice, and gritty instrumentation. Originally from New Jersey, she infuses her music with a touch of her roots. “That sounds like New Jersey,” Lozinski says about the anthemic distorted guitar chorus in her single, “Don’t Give Up (Yet).”

This American Songwriter-acclaimed artist describes her music as “a quasi-Americana sound, blending traditional folk and rock with modern soundscapes.” Lozinski writes vulnerably about her relationships with people and places, saying, “I move a lot… My songs usually come from being stuck somewhere—in a rut with a friend, a boyfriend, or in a city where all my friends have left.”

From Studio to Stardom

She grew up with a recording studio in her backyard and had plenty of opportunities to perform. Over the years, she has sung alongside icons like Tony Bennett and Queen Latifah, as well as with hometown friends Kevin Kuh (of Pool Cosby), Sam Ryan, and her brother’s band, Snacks Chapman.

After years of being an uncredited vocalist, Lozinski met producer Bobby Renz in 2019, leading to her first solo music. Together, they recorded Ski Team’s singles at Different Fur Records, also creating the cover art for the singles. Lozinski then caught the attention of LA producers Scott Seiver and Timothy Young, and in 2019-2020, the trio recorded singles that transitioned Ski Team’s sound from acoustic to full pop, receiving critical acclaim.
