Behind the Track: “Weight on Me” ft. Buddy

Just a month after his feel-good single, “All That I Want” featuring Rex Life Raj, Sunny kept the summer vibes going with “Weight on Me,” bringing the spotlight back to his life on the West Coast. Both of these tracks embody his expanding range as an artist while keeping his identity intact.

Act like you need me. I’ll act like I need you.

“Weight on Me”‘s infectious rhythm and hook-laden lyrics spare no one, reeling you in just enough to get stuck in your head. Buddy’s lively verse infuses the track with a refreshing summer wave of energy. Summing up its energy perfectly, Buddy compares the song to “the moment you build up the confidence to talk to the hot girl that almost got away.”

On his creative process, Sunny said, “Working with Buddy was cool; he brought good vibes to the studio and took the track’s energy to another level. He was so focused in our sessions, and that allowed me to be really free in my approach.” With their shared dedication to their craft, the music flowed as naturally as their synergy. Sunny also doesn’t dwell too much on the process. At the end of the day, he just wants people to have fun and enjoy the song to its fullest.

The music video brings the single to life, showing the rapper duo hosting a BBQ with friends and great music as company. Continuing from the first visualizer, the tip jar makes a fun reappearance — a symbol of the hustle that comes after enjoying small luxuries. Sunny’s way of incorporating life’s realities through his concepts is always something to look forward to.

More than the Music: Sunny’s Creative Touch

Like many up-and-coming artists in Los Angeles, Sunny knows the feeling of working side jobs to keep yourself afloat. He built on this everyday reality alongside his album title by unveiling “Scummy Sunny Management,” a faux property management company offering rent support for lucky fans. In a recently uploaded video, Sunny acts as a rent insurance agent to cheekily announce the real-life giveaway.

He takes things further by releasing a vlog series revolving around the album’s concept, humorously depicting the struggles of avoiding eviction. It’s a light reflection of how reaching your dreams doesn’t happen in one go; sometimes you still have to pick up odd gigs to make rent. The thoughtful effort behind this project shines a light on Sunny’s love of the process — mirroring his authentic self and creative artistry.
