Today, the self-directed and self-edited music video for the song incorporates Sophia Juliette’s photographs. It was during her most recent stadium tour of North America that she opened for AJR.

“Making the music video for “i hate texas” was a really fun way to get back to my roots on YouTube,” mxmtoon adds in reference to the video. “It’s quite simple, in my opinion, to fall victim to the misconception that music videos must be flawless and eye-catching productions. In reality, music videos could simply be a compilation of humorous footage captured using a photo booth.

One of my first passions on the internet was making videos. So I’m really happy that I still get to participate in creating the visual universe for the music I write.”

She shares a post-breakup escape fantasy in “i hate texas,” a fiddle-laced track co-written with underscores. The lyrics alternate between being lyrically sweet. (“I haven’t left my apartment in a real long time/I’m making friends with the stars at night”). Also, bluntly honest (“I hate texas/But the exits have more room to run away from you”).
