Laufey’s New Single and Album is Coming this August

Grammy-winning artist Laufey teases her fans with her new single and album, set to be released this August 22.

The Grammy-winning Icelandic-Chinese artist, producer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Laufey shares her highly awaited album entitled, A Matter of Time. Her new album is set for release on August 22 through Vingolf Recordings/AWAL.

In addition to her new album, Laufey also debuts the album’s new single, “Tough Luck.” Fans can stream and listen to the song here, while they can watch the lyric video here.

According to Laufey:

“Tough Luck” is a fiery song about love gone wrong. I wanted to reveal an angrier side of myself—a side that this unfortunate relationship brought out in me.

Behind Laufey’s New Album A Matter of Time

Just a month ago, Laufey teased her fans with her album released through her new song “Silver Lining.” Together with Gustavo Dudamel, she performed the song at Coachella.

For her album, A Matter of Time, she further highlights her singular sound—the one that sticks with her name but forgoes any strict rules or standards.

I’m constantly thinking about classical and jazz, how to properly preserve them and pay homage. For this album, I just wanted to let my heart wander.

To make this album happen, she teamed up with two co-producers: one with Spencer Stewart who she worked with on her first two albums, and the other was Aaron Dessner which was new to her.

People expect a pretty façade of girly clothes, fantastical stories, and romantic music. This time, I was interested in seeing how I could draw out the most flawed parts of myself and look at them directly in the mirror.

This powerful reason behind the release of Laufey’s album totally made a turn for her singing career—breaking through a new era: bolder and stronger.

Her album was so far the most daring one, exploring heavier themes as she captured what “real love” meant. How it unveils the most vulnerable and anxious you.
