This one’s for the dream girls! Gina Zo’s reinventing herself as a soloist, starting with a captivating debut single, “Dirty Habits.”

LA-based singer-songwriter Gina Zo transforms into an even bolder and more empowering icon through her first single, “Dirty Habits.” Unveiled last May 28, this exciting pop-rock anthem will surely get you moving with its hypnotic 80s synths and powerful chorus. Rightfully called the “dream girl’s song of the summer,” listening to it feels like you’re floating in a daydream.

In addition, this fresh release marks a new beginning for Gina as she returns to the music scene — now as a bright-eyed soloist. After parting ways with her band Velvet Rouge, she fearlessly takes on this path, carrying a brand-new sound but with the same heart full of unyielding passion.

Behind the Track: “Dirty Habits”

Please don’t call (Please don’t call)

Don’t wake me up (Don’t wake me up)

Don’t break the sleep (Don’t break the sleep)

Cause I don’t wanna see the light

“Dirty Habits” is the first track off of Gina’s upcoming debut album, which is set to arrive in the first half of 2026. Alongside Gina, who took charge of the songwriting and composition, it was crafted by an equally talented team, including Grammy-winning producers Justin Miller (Zach Bryan and Jazmine Sullivan) and Tim Sonnefeld (Usher).

It’s a song that perfectly describes when your imagination doesn’t quite match reality and the thrill of chasing after it — like meeting the someone of your dreams. Gina reimagines this scenario in a playful light, seamlessly blending it with a hip-swaying beat and anthemic chorus.

The single’s music video further captures its carefree and euphoric vibe, featuring Gina on a night out with her friends and dancing to her heart’s content. Along with the party scenes, we also get a romantic subplot, making it an enjoyable watch as you unconsciously bop to the song. The striking contrast between its upbeat rhythm and vulnerable lyrics adds to its uniqueness and elevates the track even more.

Gina Zo’s Humble Beginnings

Gina Zo’s unconditional love for music started at an early age. Amidst spontaneous performances in front of her grandparents, she discovered who she wanted to be. Influenced by timeless icons such as Norah Jones and Stevie Nicks, her artistic range shows in the music she creates.

These childhood memories naturally led her to where she truly belongs. At 17, she auditioned for The Voice and became a part of Team Blake. Although her journey was cut short, she looks back at it with gratitude as Gwen Stefani, her mentor at the time, helped her find confidence within herself. In an interview with Soundsphere Magazine, she shared more about her experience: “I finally learned that I could sing. Like I told you I knew growing up that I loved singing but there’s something about going on a show where you learn that you are actually capable. They really gave me that confidence.”

Being where she is now didn’t happen overnight; it was the fruit of her tireless effort and the hardships she overcame through the years. After her time on screen, Gina signed with a small indie label based in her home state, Philadelphia. However, this opportunity exposed her to the stark reality of the industry, which became her reason to step back from music.

But, those who belong to the stage can never truly keep away from it. Gina eventually came back after experiencing a tough breakup. Along with three other friends, they formed Velvet Rouge, a rock band with a powerful impact and a strong purpose. They went on to release multiple EPs and singles while performing at various festivals and sold-out shows before Gina started anew as a soloist.

Gina Zo: Bold, Confident, and Her

Gina Zo is a powerhouse, no doubt. Not only because of her piercing voice but also because of her moving journey and empowering advocacies. Back in 2023, she released her soul-stirring single, “Faking It,” a song close to her heart as it became her way of coming out as bisexual. It’s an uplifting anthem that narrates her personal journey, inspiring her listeners and the broader LGBTQIA+ community to embrace themselves whole and love freely.

In 2024, Gina moved to Los Angeles and trekked a fresh path toward a solo career. She boldly accepted the challenge of trying new things and experiences, which translated into her music. Instead of her usual rock style, she found joy in experimenting and creating music that’s unapologetically her. And she’s taking us all along for the ride.

With the release of “Dirty Habits” and the promise of a 2026 debut album, her rise in the music scene has only just begun. We may not have all the details just yet, but one thing’s for sure: Gina Zo is a star, and she shines the brightest in the spotlight — may it be a makeshift one or the blinding lights of a sold-out show.
