The Barry Gibb Talk Show returns after more than a decade.
With the inevitability of Justin Timberlake‘s comeback with new music also comes some of his favorite skits on SNL. Hence, The Barry Gibb Talk Show returns after more than a decade of absence in parallel to his return.
But what did he bring to the table after being absent for more than a decade from the general public? Is it even necessary for the skit to be brought out with how much the times have changed?

Justin and Jimmy BeeGeesing it up on a Saturday Night
Justin Timberlake of N’Sync fame and Jimmy Fallon of the Tonight Show fame based the skit on the Bee Gees’ “Nights on Broadway.” For the uninformed with the Bee Gees catalog, it is the second single from the group’s 1975 album Main Course.
Justin played Robin Gibb, who doesn’t have anything to add but sing and dance with Barry. Jimmy played the mouthpiece host Barry Gibb, sounding like he got dipped in a barrel of ice when talking. The SNL skit is both of them there:
In a room full of strangers, discussing politics, And the issues of the day.
And they want to:
Talk to you, though you may not want me too, guess what I’m still gonna talk to you
And they don’t care:
What you say, talking it up on the Barry Gibb Talk Show, Talkin bout issues, Talkin bout real important issues

Now imagine all that but sang in the notes of “Nights on Broadway” by the Bee Gees. It’s Barry Gibb’s talk show and it’s a no-nonsense show. Barry Gibb doesn’t take any crap from anyone according to him.

Sir Barry and Robin Gibb (Mostly Barry) started talking and mostly singing
Their guests are Elie Mystal, played by Keenan Thompson; Andrew Yang, played by Bowen Yang; and Joanne Carducci, played by Dakota Johnson. Barry made side jabs at the frontrunners for America’s election year before they first talked to Elie. Stating that one is too old (Joe Biden) and the other will be distracted by their legal problems (Donald Trump). Barry then asked if Robin had anything to add. No … No, he doesn’t.
Their question to Elie is, “Do you think the media is overstating the negatives of the nation to get views and clicks?”. He replied, “Well, that’s an interesting question,” but before he could say something of substance, Barry replied, feeling offended. Comparing Elie to Don King eating another Don King, he threatens to unhinge his jaw, biting his head off like a goldfish cracker.

Making another threat to psychologically destroy him with bigger shoe size replacements. Barry then declares that he fears nothing for he watched Saltburn with his entire family knowing about the infamous bathtub scene.

Barry asked Robin a second time if he had anything to add, and he replied… No … No, he doesn’t.
Barry then asked their second guest, Andrew, “Do you think a third-party candidate could get enough votes to win a general election?”. Andrew then replied while laughing “Well, uh, Barry,” as he gets interrupted by Barry’s reply in offense again with “Call me sir,” followed by a humble brag of how and why he got knighted. Barry then threatened Andrew that he would rip out his intestines and use them as a personalized zipline.

Barry asked Robin a third time if he had anything to add. Robin replied … No, No he doesn’t … Barry asked “Really?” and he replied in assurance … NO!

Barry Gibb sings “Joanne, Joanne, Jordan Gardaducci”
Earning an unscripted laugh, after messing up Joanne Carducci’s name from Justin, Jimmy sensed an opportunity to improvise and started singing about being from Australia. That improvised singing is the funniest part because of how it’s delivered awkwardly and unsynchronized.
Barry then asked Joanne, “I know you are a vocal critic of President Trump; however, people have said that he was correct about the border and China.” Joanne interrupted by saying, “Well, that depends on which metric…” before getting interrupted back by Barry ranting, “I am Legend.” He then declares that he has not cried in 77 years except during episodes of Bluey. Barry then declares:
If you don’t cry at Bluey, You’re not a real man
Barry then quickly asks if Robin has anything to add, and it looks like he has something. Robin then whispers at Barry (more like generating the f sound in his ears), and Barry states… He doesn’t. Andrew, feeling snarky, said, “You know, I have something to add,” interrupting him with a threat, “I will:
Deglove your corpse, use your rib cage as a trap
Repeating that twice before ending with a “Ha!” like a signature Bee Gees member ending the skit with the Talk Show theme. But changing the word “issues” with “chest hair” and “cool medallions.”
The Barry Gibb Talk Show Conclusion
Justin Timberlake as Robin didn’t have anything to add; some things never change after more than a decade. The skit was always meant to parody an alternate timeline of “If the Bee Gees brothers had a talk show”. It is used to bring laughs and make fun of the divisive political climate in the United States of America.
It is probably an attempt at a performance for your consideration for an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series. And lastly, it is probably a way to drum up hype for Justin Timberlake’s new album “Everything I Thought It Was,” coming March 15, and whether or not it works remains to be seen, so stay tuned in.
