The Things You Don’t Know Yet captures the essence of Adult Leisure’s sound — a vibrant mix of emotion, energy, and honesty. Recorded and mixed with longtime producer Ollie Searle at Humm Studios and mastered by John Webber (David Bowie, Duran Duran, Coach Party), the 10-track debut album dives deep into themes of people, love, loss, and the emotions that shape our lives.

Moreover, each song stands out with infectious melodies, lush guitars, driving basslines, and heartfelt lyrics, beautifully blending dancefloor rhythms with raw sentiment. In the end, it’s a striking collection that perfectly embodies their self-described style — “happy music for sad people.”

On the creation of the album, drummer Nathan Searle says,

The Things You Don’t Know Yet is our way of saying ‘this is who we are’. We’ve lived through different moments, felt the same weight. We each have our own voice, but this album speaks as one.

He shares that the album isn’t just a set of songs but a reflection of the band’s journey — as friends, musicians, and people trying to make sense of life. It captures the emotions, moments, and hidden feelings they’ve carried, and writing it made them feel more connected to each other and, now, to their listeners. “They were ours for a long time. Now they’re yours,” he says.

“Boy Grows Old”

Ahead of the album’s release, Adult Leisure unveiled their final single, “Boy Grows Old,” on September 5, 2025 — their second collaboration with John Waugh, saxophonist for The 1975 and Sam Fender, and now the second track on the album.

Guitarist David Woolford describes the song as a raw reflection on growing up and confronting the imperfections of adulthood. “Our music often carries a sense of nostalgia, usually viewed through the lens of rose-tinted glasses. While some of our songs romanticize the past, “Boy Grows Old” doesn’t.”

In particular, the lyrics reflect the genuine experiences of youth and the difficulties that accompany growing older. Through its honest storytelling, “Boy Grows Old” explores the pressures young people face—especially from family—as well as the realization that parents are imperfect and still finding their own way. The single offers a nostalgic look back at childhood, now viewed through the wisdom of hindsight.

It’s a heartfelt message to our younger selves, recognizing we can’t change the past, but we can reflect on it and learn from our experiences.
