Samuel Virgo unveils “ICU,” a hypnotic single exploring deception, perception, and truth ahead of his upcoming EP.

Samuel Virgo introduces his upcoming EP with “ICU,” a hypnotic new single that explores deception, perception, and the stories people choose to believe.

Samuel Virgo

Born in Sheffield and now based in London, Virgo builds music across indie, alternative, hip-hop, and post-punk. He combines reflective songwriting with self-produced soundscapes. The result feels intimate yet expansive. His influences include Fontaines D.C., Tyler, The Creator, The 1975, Twenty One Pilots, Steve Lacy, Blood Orange, and Dean Blunt. However, Virgo prioritizes individuality over fitting into a specific genre.

After several years releasing music as Svirgo19, he now creates under his real name. This shift marks a more personal chapter in his career. It also allows him to explore identity, relationships, growing up, and the world around him with greater honesty.

A Hypnotic Look at Truth

“ICU” serves as the first preview of Virgo’s upcoming EP, which arrives later this year. He wrote the track near the end of the project’s creative process. The song examines how narratives can distort reality and how people can manipulate or conceal the truth.

Virgo takes a more direct approach with “ICU.” Instead of relying on sprawling storytelling, he builds the track around repetition and guitar-driven textures. Furthermore, he wrote, produced, and engineered the song himself. This hands-on process gives him the freedom to develop his ideas without outside constraints.

The upcoming EP continues that approach. Virgo leaves his experiences open to interpretation, allowing listeners to connect with the songs through their own perspectives.

Beyond the studio, Virgo has earned attention through headline performances at The Finsbury and Temple of Art and Music. He has also appeared at venues and festivals across the UK and Norway. His work has received support from BBC Introducing Sheffield, COLORSxSTUDIO, Glide Magazine, DMY, and Ones To Watch. In addition, he contributed to the soundtrack of BBC Three’s Boarders.

With “ICU” leading into his upcoming EP, Virgo continues to carve out a distinctive space within the UK alternative scene.
