LILY unveils the alluring vibe of “Higa” in a bold musical reawakening.
Philippine rock sensation LILY is back, making waves with their latest single, “Higa.” Known for their evocative sound, LILY channels a new, seductive energy in this track, signaling a powerful new chapter for the band.
It is an alluring song that will satisfy your musical cravings. Joshua Bulot, their lead singer, came up with this catchy song while people-watching at a Poblacion bar. The excitement of attraction drew me in. Joshua recounts, “I wanted to sing about the power dynamics and the excitement of that first encounter.”
But Joshua, the newest member of the OPM hitmakers, almost scrapped “Higa” due to self-doubt. He was concerned that his song deviated from the subjects previously covered by his bandmates.
Lem Belaro, LILY’s main songwriter and drummer, recalls, “When Josh first played “Higa” on his guitar, he was filled with uncertainty.” However, his chords and lyrics struck a chord with every one of us. We were motivated to bring his music to life using our abilities and instruments.
The group believed Higa was the ideal song to showcase the band’s variety. Bass guitarist Aaron Ricafrente expressed his enthusiasm: “It was a great opportunity for me to experiment with different genres with this song.” Although my specialty is rock, I was able to add elements of jazz, funk, and swing. That is something our audience has never heard from us before.

Furthermore, people widely acknowledged Joshua’s candid and unvarnished narration as a positive step. “This song really reflects our growth as songwriters,” says lead and rhythm guitarist Nathan Reyes. We’ve adopted a more responsible stance, even delving into subjects like sensuality.
Each instrument—drums, keyboard, and guitars—stands out on Higa, perfectly matching Joshua’s voice and enhancing the overall sound. Ezra Bañez, the keyboardist, continues, “Higa is really a team effort.” Freedom to experiment led to a genuinely original musical composition that reflected LILY.
Beyond only expressing themselves, LILY is aware that Higa serves as a present to their devoted supporters and an introduction to their music for their new listeners. “The song’s lyrics are open to interpretation,” LILY’s main guitarist, Alden Acosta, teases. We urge the audience to find their own meanings in each word.
They worked with Malupiton, one of the nation’s leading content producers, on the Higa music video to highlight LILY’s artistic development. The finished product incorporates the band’s and Malupiton’s keen humorous sensibilities while capturing the individual personalities of each group member.
