There is no doubt about the distinction and artistry of ALAMAT, and it is visibly presented in the new album. Formed in 2020, the boys have only imagined a huge crowd cheering for them onstage. Originally a nine-member ensemble, ALAMAT has honed each of their musical and dance skills through months of rigorous training. The members came from different ethnic backgrounds: Taneo (Ilocano/Kalinga), Mo (Tagalog), Tomas (Bicolano), Alas (Mindanawon/Bisaya), R-Ji (Waray), and Jao (Kapampangan).

Although they have different cultures and personalities, leader Taneo shared how the members exerted double the effort for each other. “We came from different provinces; we have different cultures. We used that chance to learn from each other’s roots.” Three years into ALAMAT, they’ve forged a bond so tight they can almost read each other’s minds. “We are so close as a group. We don’t have to say much about how we feel because we can already sense each other.”

ALAMAT Picks Favorite Track From New Album

During the recent press conference for the first solo concert of ALAMAT, the members spilled the beans on their favorite tracks from the new album IsaPuso. Alas found it tough to pick a fave, given each song’s emotional rollercoaster, settling on “Noli.” The eldest, Tomas, picked “Dayang” as it is a collaboration of their best songwriter and producer.

Bubbly Jao chose “Dong-Dong-Ay” as it addresses world peace. “The song is very timely for what is happening to the world now.”

Meanwhile, Taneo, R-Ji, and Mo resonated with “Noli,” highlighting the deep emotion that the song emits. R-Ji also mentioned how he was able to showcase his skills in playing the guitar for the track.

The members also hinted at solo performances and surprise stages. “The solo concert is a chance for us to give our all, and we are so grateful. It’s just amazing. While rehearsing for the concert, we were also reminiscing about how far we’ve come.”

In particular, ALAMAT thanked three names for trusting them: Direk Jason Paul Laxamana, Viva, and the fans, Magiliw.

What makes ALAMAT stand out from the rest is its clear concept and identity. As the group’s creative director, Jason Paul Laxamana uncovers the story behind “Dagundong.”

“Dagundong was an unsolicited song from Thyro Alfaro. One night, Thyro chatted me on Facebook and sent the demo for Dagundong. When we listened to it, we were amazed at how badass it was. Thyro absolutely understands the concept of ALAMAT.”

Moreover, POP Journal asked the Filipino filmmaker and writer if the members made him stressed while preparing for the new album. “For this album, we have a clear timetable. At the beginning of the year, we had a meeting and decided that we should release a full-length album with a minimum of 8 songs and a maximum of 10 songs.”

Direk JP highlighted that they needed a lot of heads to work on the album. He mentioned how he is trying to build ALAMAT as an idol group that is capable of producing its own songs. “In the future, once they prove that they can make their own songs, we will then let them and give them the creative freedom.”

ALAMAT Members Share Their Biggest Milestone So Far And Plans For 2024

With regular gigs at Viva Cafe selling out, ALAMAT’s solo concert isn’t just a spectacle; it’s a proof that the members are now ready to showcase their all.

As one of the shining stars in P-Pop, ALAMAT’s journey hits a crescendo. Performing at the P-Pop Convention before SB19 was a milestone they hold dear. “It was an accomplishment to perform at the P-Pop Convention before SB19. The members really admire and look up to them.”

Direk JP became emotional. He reminisced about the time he asked the boys to close their eyes and imagine a huge Filipino crowd cheering for them as they danced and sang onstage. It was in 2020, during the pandemic. “Our plans for 2024 are to continue with the mission of the group and to perform in other countries.” Now, ALAMAT is slowly living the dream.
