“Blue Coral Reef” by Seiko Matsuda gets a Spotify stream surge of almost 530% after NewJeans HANNI performed the song at a recent Tokyo Dome fan meeting.
HANNI, together with her co-NewJeans members, recently had their Bunnies Camp 2024 fan meeting at Tokyo Dome last June. She has the fans in the palm of her hand with her rendition of Seiko Matsuda’s 1980 song “Blue Coral Reef.” Her rendition of the song not only draws acclaim from fans but also sparks modern appreciation for the original song.
The following week after HANNI’s performance, Spotify streams for the original song surged by a staggering rate of almost 530%. In addition to discovering music at different points in time on the streaming app, the rise in streams is proof of how a great cover song can bring past hits back into modern times.
