blackpink lisa dream short film with kentaro sakaguchi

BLACKPINK’s Lisa grieves a love gone too soon alongside Japanese Actor Kentaro Sakaguchi in the “Dream” short film.

Dream” is one of the subtracks of BLACKPINK’s Lisa Alter Ego album, launched on February 28, 2025. Most of its tracks are loud, powerful and bold, and what’s exceptional is her song Dream—as if Lisa has come to a point where she ends a relationship. There is no doubt that she co-wrote this song.

Lisa’s vocals in “Dream” break the familiar image of her as solely a rapper and dancer. She effortlessly delivers a ballad, her voice carrying the weight of sadness that makes the emotions feel palpable.

Whenever I close my eyes
It’s taking me back in time
Been drowning in dreams lately
Like it’s 2019 baby.

These lines, particularly the mention of 2019, resonate deeply with listeners. Singing along feels intimate, almost as if the song invites us to confront our own longing for someone from the past—even if that person exists only in our dreams.

In Another Life: The ‘Dream’ Short Film MV

Originally, the song was a relapse track for fans craving Jennie and Lisa’s interactions, sparking viral edits on TikTok and becoming a topic of conversation across the fandom. Now, as she launched the short film on August 14, 2025, it has materialized into a poignant visual narrative, where BLACKPINK’s Lisa reveals her vulnerability and longing for someone who’s gone forever.

The short film carries a bittersweet storytelling style reminiscent of Katy Perry’s “The One That Got Away,” capturing grief and yearning with remarkable depth. The film depicts him attending his lover’s funeral, where he cherishes their little memories together and finds closure.

One stirring scene features a heartfelt exchange between Lisa and Kentaro:

Lisa asks, “What do you want to do in your life?”
Kentaro answers, “I want to be the lake.”
Lisa replies, “I want to be a tree.

Kentaro delivers a flawless performance as Lisa’s lover, transcending the language barrier, with his lines hitting the most heartbreaking notes. One magical moment is captured in the reflection of trees mirrored on the water—a visual metaphor that deepens the MV’s emotional impact. As she floats alone on a boat, Lisa’s expressive eyes evoke memories of their shared moments, creating an unforgettable scene.

The film’s muted color palette further reinforces its melancholic tone. Bright colors are absent, symbolizing how life loses its vibrancy in the absence of love when their presence was once the color in each other’s world.

“Dream” Could Be an Art of Letting Go

The journey of Dream is an invitation for those stuck in prolonged grief to finally release their hold on lost loved ones. Lisa portrays the stages of mourning: sorrow, lingering pain, and quiet reflection by the lake. The film’s closing scene, where she releases her lover’s ashes, is a powerful reminder that no one should remain trapped in the shadows of grief.

“Dream” could be ultimately an art of letting go: we can cherish memories, but we cannot live in the past.

This short film is a masterpiece from BLACKPINK’s Lisa—a touching, emotional rollercoaster that leaves viewers yearning for more. One can only hope for a continuation of the story, a glimpse into how their love might have unfolded.
