BTS’ V says no to ‘situationships‘ with the release of his latest single, “FRI(END)S”.
It seems like Kim Taehyung, best known as V, is not a fan of the no-label relationship trend. Getting out of the friend zone is one way to simplify the story. With V’s way of expressing his message through music, fans quickly got hooked on his song—BTS’ V “FRI(ENDS)”.
A post from BTS’ X account first revealed the surprise track, “FRI(END)S,” which reads:
“Hello, this is Big Hit Music. We would like to announce the release of BTS member V’s digital single ‘FRI(END)S. This song is a love song in the pop-soul R&B genre, so we ask fans to look forward to it. Thank you for always loving and caring for BTS.”
Charming everyone with another hit, BTS’ V “FRI(ENDS)” bagged the #1 spot on YouTube’s Global Top Music Videos Chart after the release of its official music video. The MV had already garnered a total of 15 Million views and counting.
Looking into the lyrics of the song, the phrases highlighted depict the confusion of a so-called situationship wherein one experiences being more than friends but less than lovers trope.
“So wouldn’t it make sense if I was yours?
And you could call me your baby
But we say we’re just, say we’re just
Friends, just for now.”
As the tale of “FRI(END)S” goes, V wanted to portray the song as it is. The video shows the feeling of being madly in love and completely stubborn because of loneliness. It was a chaotic yet artistic art of music and video.
With the realization that it is either way, unaddressed emotions will lead to something bad—V confidently finishes by putting an end to just being friends.
