Sending love and cheers! Filipina talent is recognized as one of the members of HYBE x Geffen Records’ newest girl group KATSEYE.
Sophia Laforteza successfully became a part of KATSEYE. In a live broadcast via The Debut: Dream Academy, Sophia Laforteza shared her utmost appreciation for the overwhelming support her friends, fans, and family had given her through her journey to becoming a part of the group.
“I feel… I can’t even put it into words, but I’ve worked so hard to be here and I love and appreciate everybody who has voted for me…who has been supporting me since day one. My family, my friends, my Sunnies (Sophia’s fans)” Sophia says.
“I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you guys and even for everybody in this whole entire project for believing in me and allowing me to grow,” she added.
The 20-year-old Pinay idol aspirant shared in an emotional short speech. This was when she shared the stage with her fellow members. This includes Jeong Yoon-Chae from South Korea and Manon Bannerman from Switzerland. Three other members from the United States, were Lara Rajagopalan, Megan Meiyok Skiendiel, and Daniela Avanzini.

With over 120,000 applicants for the show, Sophia bagged the top and first pick amongst the six final members of KATSEYE. In a suspenseful announcement, the Philippines’ representative was the first one to step into the debut zone in the hopes of fulfilling their idol dreams.
Meanwhile, the official debut of the global girl group KATSEYE will follow in 2024. The Debut: Dream Academy is a partnership between South Korean Entertainment giant HYBE labels known for their super groups BTS, Enhypen, New Jeans, Le Sserafim, etc., and American music label Geffen Records.
Following the success of the show, a film documentary will also be released. It will showcase the behind-the-scenes process of creating the group which will air on Netflix.
