The Don’t Lie series is one of the most popular in GOING SEVENTEEN history. The variety web series, available on YouTube, consists of the members of the boy group SEVENTEEN trying almost everything under the sun.
The first episode of Don’t Lie started out as a play on the famous mafia game, wherein the members have to outwit and outplay each other at every turn to win the episode. With every installment, new rules and conditions are created to make it more interesting than the last.
Of course, all good things come to an end, as the finale to this beloved series came with Don’t Lie: The Chaser. At that point, there were already masked men as extras and a huge sack of the prize to account for, thereby making it a glamorous end to the series. Don’t Lie 1
The first episode of this iconic series was released in 2020. All the roles are distributed secretly, with three mafias, one doctor, and one police. Just like the actual game, the goal is for the citizens to pick out all the mafias correctly within the rounds given. The twist with the series is that it is also, essentially, a treasure hunt. The citizens are also tasked to find the treasure hidden by the mafia members.
For this episode, the mafia members (spoiler alert!) win the game, taking advantage of the confusion to win the game. Jeonghan’s sophisticated masterminding plays very well with Hoshi’s unpredictable nature as well as The8’s quiet protectiveness over the hidden money. The efficiency of this trio is evident when Seungkwan discovers the identity of the mafia and promptly meets his end.
Don’t Lie 2
Following the success of the first Don’t Lie, the second installment, Don’t Lie II, comes out at the end of the same year. It seems like Carats cannot get enough of the members sacrificing each other for variety! This episode has them dressed in more mafia-like outfits, following the success of the first episode.
Hoshi is a star again in this episode as the group’s resident wild card. This time, he transforms the situation for the citizens by revealing Mingyu’s true identity as a mafia member. Jun also steals the show as he reveals that he actually found the hidden money!
Don’t Lie 3
Don’t Lie III comes out in 2021. With both sides having already won and the roles evenly distributed, the members find themselves at a loss. In between rounds, the PDs provide a lie detector test. This episode is undoubtedly one of the silliest, considering that the boys feel like they have nothing to lose.
Hoshi, already known for how much he shines in Don’t Lie, is voted out immediately. The members do it in order to help Mingyu get his revenge. In this episode, the biggest twist is that the staff play the role of the mafia, which leads to the members hunting for ghosts. This makes it so the doctor, Dino, essentially has no role. As the GOSE editors captioned it, “supply with no demand.”
Surprise Don’t Lie
In 2023, what starts out as a skit episode is revealed to be a Don’t Lie episode. No one expects it, but it is very typical of the tricky series. SEVENTEEN, expecting a work trip skit and dressed as such, find themselves on a treasure hunt as the PDs surprise them with the true nature of this episode. Thus, the title: Surprise Don’t Lie.
This episode involves a bigger treasure hunt. Their roles are on slips of paper found around the large venue, and the money could be hidden within the tiniest slips and corners. The scales are definitely higher with its return. With that, we say welcome back, Don’t Lie!
Don’t Lie: Clue
Don’t Lie: Clue was released in 2023, quickly following Surprise Don’t Lie. For this episode, more whodunit elements are added into the mix. The members find themselves not only guessing who the mafia is, but they also need to figure out who the killer is. As if that isn’t enough, they also need to find out his murder weapon!
Don’t Lie: Clue indicates that the points from this episode carry over to the next and final installment, ultimately determining the true winner of Don’t Lie. Consequently, the stakes increase considerably with each episode, and the game has transitioned from a team sport to a more individual competition.
Don’t Lie: The Chaser
Don’t Lie: Chaser involves several masked men and a bag of money. The final installment of the GOING SEVENTEEN Don’t Lie Series is huge, flashy, and full of twists. The last episode of this beloved series is released in 2023, quickly following the earlier 2023 episodes. It plays on more apocalyptic themes, with the members allowed to play around in a bigger venue with threats lurking at every corner. Not only that, but it also brings more heist vibes, as the treasure is no longer hidden but carried around like loot.
