A fresh flavor off the big screen of Philippine cinema as PULP studios introduce their first PINOY and Korean star-studded film, “Ma’am Chief: Shakedown in Seoul”!
PULP Studios celebrated a media fest with the cast members of Ma’am Chief: Shakedown in Seoul at Hilton Manila on November 10.
Despite the heavy and busy traffic on a Friday afternoon, the film’s cast warmly greeted the Philippine press to share their insights and experiences during the filming and production. The gathering started with a short introduction to the roles and the characters each artist plays. Afterward, an intimate conversation about the love and bond the team had built throughout producing the film warmed the venue.
Lead actress Melai Cantiveros-Francisco, “Momshie Melai,” now “Ma’am Chief Melai,” shared what it is like to be chosen as the movie’s main character—as she was surprised to even be offered the role.
“It feels like LBM… I’m so nervous, sobra akong kinabahan pero so nervous but so glamorous,” she jokingly says.

A mix and match of the K-NOY culture
On and off cam, the cast shared what it is like working with one another at the frontier of bringing a film expressing Korean and Pinoy culture. The cast and crew are on the same page about the beautiful work and bond they have created.
The K-stars also reflected on their experience in the film’s production. Moon Kyung, who plays the role of Kim Bora, recalled how she was happy to be part of the team.
“It was my first time working with the Filipino team as well as other Korean actors. At first, I was a little bit nervous and worried because our language is different, our countries are different,” Moon Kyung says.
“I thought there would be a lot of barriers. But they were really kind and so sweet. I was surprised, and their energy is so good,” she added.
Do Ji Han of Hwarang also mentioned that there was never a dull moment in the filmmaking as everyone was comfortable to work with. “On the scene, there was always fun and laughter, especially with Melai,” Ji Han says.
“Because my first international project with an international crew like this has been a good memory for me if given the chance, I would love to [make more Philippine and international projects],” he added.

PULP Studios Silver Token
Ma’am Chief: Shakedown in Seoul celebrates the silver anniversary of PULP Live World’s outstanding contribution to entertainment and media production in the Philippines. The film’s executive producer and COO, Happee Sy-Go, also shared her sentiments.
“It is more to tell a story of what I have been in for the past 14 years since I was doing K-pop. I have been inclusive with the fans and the community. And this time, I want to tell their story,” Happee says.
Happee wanted a Filipino character enjoying K-pop and K-drama, which happened through her and her best friend Kring Kim’s vision as the movie’s director.
The film’s writer, Sofia Hazel Calayag, expressed her love for the movie as it is a tribute to her mother, a retired policewoman. As she puts it into words, it is a film filled with action and women empowerment.
Meanwhile, Ma’am Chief: Shakedown in Seoul will be available in theaters nationwide on November 15.
