A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder S1

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, featuring Emma Myers as Pip, is set to have its next season. But before that, let’s unravel every mystery that Season 1 has brought to the table.

Based on Holly Jackson’s novel of the same name, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder follows Pip (Emma Myers), who’s obsessed with uncovering the truth behind Andie Bell’s (India Lillie Davies) death, who was said to be murdered by her boyfriend, Sal Singh (Rahul Pattni). Together with Sal’s brother, Ravi (Zain Iqbal), they walked into the journey of finding out what really happened five years ago.

Pip believed that Sal wasn’t capable of killing his girlfriend. Convinced of this, she started digging up the case. But amidst all that, Pip unravels a more complicated truth.

Who Was the “Secret Older Guy” in A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder Season 1?

Pip received a call from someone whom she suspected to be Andie’s other man. She named him “Secret Older Guy.” When she answered the call, the person on the line was Naomi, her best friend’s sister. Naomi used the old phone of her father, Elliot Ward, which means that the “Secret Older Guy” was her best friend’s father.

To uncover the truth, Pip left her phone in Elliot’s car to track him. When she finally got his location, which turned out to be Ward’s old house, Pip followed him. Elliot saw her and let her enter the house. She confronted Elliot, and there she confirmed that he and Andie really had a relationship before.

What Was Elliot’s Part in the Death of Andie?

Amidst their conversation, Pip showed her disgust towards Elliot, knowing that he literally had a relationship with a minor. She discovered that on the night Andie went missing, she met Elliot to ask for £5,000 to help her run away from home. But when Elliot refused to give her the money, Andie became upset, and he pushed her—causing her to fall and hit her head on the countertop.

When Elliot was trying to call the ambulance, he could no longer find Andie. Pip was slightly convinced by what Elliot had told her and was about to leave when she heard a pipe making a sound. Pippa followed it and discovered someone in the attic. She thought it was Andie who had been locked up for years, but she was wrong.

Pip saw a young woman named Isla. After seeing Isla, Elliot locked the two of them inside, and this is where Isla told her that Elliot found her on the street and thought she was Andie. However, while Elliot was drunk, he revealed to her that he had killed Sal and then locked her in the attic to prevent her from talking to the police. Thanks to Pip’s thinking, she had instructed Ravi to call the police before confronting Elliot.

Elliot Killed Sal, But Who Killed Andie?

It was confirmed that Elliot killed Sal. Thinking that Andie died the night they fought, Elliot thought of an escape plan using Sal. Elliot drugged and suffocated Sal, then sent the confession from Sal’s phone and made it look like Sal killed himself out of guilt.

However, Pip suspected that Elliot being locked up in jail wasn’t the end of the case. Yes, Elliot killed Sal. But Pip realized that it wasn’t Elliot who killed Andie. If Andie left Elliot’s house, where did she go?

Andie

To their house. This is where Andie and Becca, her sister, fought because Becca learned that Andie was planning to leave their home. Aside from that, Becca got angry because Andie wouldn’t come with her to the police to tell what Max Hastings did to her—Max raped Becca. Andie couldn’t come because she was the one who sold the drugs to Max. That meant she would also be locked up for being a drug dealer.

Becca pushed Andie, which led to her death. She dragged Andie to an isolated cave and threw her body there. It’s been five years, and Andie’s body has not yet been found. Therefore, the one who killed Andie was her sister, Becca.

What Happened to Pip After Knowing the Killer?

Pip confronted Becca about it. She learned that Becca was sexually assaulted at a Calamity Party where drugs, alcohol, and other paraphernalia were present. Max Hastings, one of Sal’s friends, was the perpetrator. When Becca asked Andie to come with her, Andie refused, saying that she was the one who sold the drugs.

This is why Becca tried to kill Pip when she questioned her, and she nearly added another victim to her murder list. She drugged Pip and lured her to an isolated cave, saying that it was where she hid Andie’s body. Luckily, Ravi and Cara came in time to save Pip—or else, she would have experienced the same fate as Andie.

But Who Is Blackmailing Pip?

The one behind the papers with the note telling Pip to “STOP DIGGING, PIPPA” was Elliot. She discovered this when she learned that Elliot was the “Secret Older Guy.” Pip confirmed this when she printed it using Elliot’s computer. Meanwhile, the one threatening Pip via text was Becca—even the one who killed their dog, Barney.

Who Blackmailed Max and Naomi?

When an accident happened in the past involving a drug-soaked Naomi, Max, and their friends, Max made a call. He asked a police officer, Dan da Silva, to cover it up for them. Max blackmailed Dan that if he wouldn’t help, he’d reveal how Dan had a relationship with Andie two years ago. To avoid this, Dan covered for them.

But the one who was blackmailing Max and Naomi into lying about the real time that Sal left on the night Andie disappeared was Elliot, Naomi’s father. Elliot read Naomi’s diary where he learned about the hit-and-run. He used it against them to put Sal as the suspect in Andie’s death.

Why Did Pip Start Digging the Case in the First Place?

Ever since Andie died, Pip always recalled the day when Andie asked her to keep quiet about where she would go. Then Sal followed, asking Pip if she saw Andie. Pip pointed Sal in the direction where Andie went. Thinking that maybe Andie and Sal had an argument that day, Pip regretted telling Sal where Andie went.

But it turns out that Sal and Andie weren’t arguing at all. The two were planning to leave the town so they could live away from Andie’s controlling family.

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder Season 1 Ending Explained and Review

Pippa

Pip almost became another dead body in Little Kilton if Ravi and Cara hadn’t come on time to save her from Becca’s hands. Finally, Sal’s name was cleared and Andie Bell’s case came to an end. After the case, Ravi chose to stay beside Pippa. Our Holmes and Watson tandem ended that case with their own love story. But Pippa isn’t stopping just there. She confronted Max Hastings, saying that it wasn’t the end for him. She’ll prove how much of a dickhead Max is.

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder is definitely a crime thriller that will keep you in your seat for seven hours straight because every scene is as important as everything else. Although there were some changes seen in this adaptation, it was overall a good watch. With Emma Myers and Zain Iqbal’s tandem as Pippa and Ravi, respectively, not a single episode was a bore.
