Love and sobriety become an unexpected mix in Second Shot at Love, a new series starring SNSD’s Sooyoung and Gong Myung!
This upcoming tvN drama hints at a rocky journey to sobriety for our main lead as she reunites with her alcohol-averse first love. Scheduled to premiere on May 12, Second Shot at Love is a romantic comedy with unique advocacy. It’s lightly penned as Korea’s first anti-drinking drama (as mentioned in its first teaser), which calls for anticipation about how they address this contrastingly serious topic.
Behind the scenes, it is directed by Jang Yoo-jung, known for her work in Honest Candidate and The Bros. Screenwriters Myung Soo-hyun and Jun Ji-hyun are also back after working together in the long-running series Ugly Miss Young-ae.

What to Expect in Second Shot at Love
Second Shot at Love follows Han Geum-joo (Sooyoung), an experienced mechanic with an increasingly concerning alcohol problem. When more aspects of her life start to become affected, this finally prompts her to take on a difficult challenge—stop drinking alcohol. However, this goal is easier said than done as she navigates the bumpy path toward a life of abstinence.
During her journey, she suddenly meets Seo Ui-joon (Gong Myung), her first love and her hometown’s new doctor. He also strictly hates alcohol, a significant detail that widens the rift between them. Will this mismatched pair find a middle ground, or will it only lead Geum-joo to a bitter reality?
The first teaser gives us a glimpse into our girl’s daily life, enjoying it to the fullest while knocking back alcohol on various occasions. Unfortunately, the excitement abruptly ends when we witness the aftermath of her drinking mishaps. We also hear concerned shouts of her name, and Ui-joon’s firm order to stop drinking serves as the final blow to her situation. Geum-joo’s drunken hiccup as a response highlights the difficulty of following his words.

Meet the Cast: Who’s Who?
Second Shot at Love won’t be complete without its talented leads and supporting cast members.
Choi Sooyoung will star as Han Geum-joo, our booze-enthusiast female lead. She’s a mechanic with 10 years of experience who can never turn down a fun night out with her team. While she excels in her work, this shocking contrast between her day and night selves begins to clash as alcohol slowly consumes her life. These glaring issues, coupled with the sincere encouragement of her first love, motivate her to make a permanent change in her life.
Alongside our determined protagonist, Gong Myung will take on the role of Seo Ui-joon, who sparked her will to change; he also happens to be her friend and first love from high school. After years of no contact, he returns to their hometown for undisclosed reasons as the new doctor. However, their reunion isn’t as romantic as expected due to Ui-joon’s hatred for alcohol.
We’re also introduced to the rowdy yet lovable Han family! Kim Sang-ho is Han Jung-soo, Geum-joo’s lively father who can’t seem to last a day without alcohol. Although he can be reckless at times, he is full of warmth and genuine love for his family.
In addition, we have Kim Sung-ryung as Kim Gwang-ok, Geum-joo’s mother. As the only anti-alcohol member in the family, she constantly expresses her concern and frustration over the trio’s shared love for drinking. She’s also regarded as the older sister in their village, showcasing her stern yet reliable nature.
Finally, Jo Yoon-hee is Han Hyun-joo, Geum-joo’s older sister. Like her father and sister, she’s not an exception to the alcohol-loving DNA. Her hectic life as a mom of twins finds her at the mercy of alcohol with drinking as her only source of relaxation.
