Tempest episode 6 reveals the meaning behind its Korean title 북극성 (Polaris).
In the previous episode of Tempest, Sanho and Munju share a passionate kiss after they each confessed their feelings as the siren wailed and the song “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” played in the background. For the last time, they pretend it’s a normal day and they were a normal man and woman.
During their intimate moment, Sanho asks Munju to run away together to the Gobi Desert, a place he stayed at for two years after defecting from North Korea. Every night, he looked up at the sky and saw one star that remained unchanged: Polaris. It brought him comfort and made him feel like he could go anywhere he wanted.
For Sanho , who had nothing and no one to turn to, Polaris was a symbol of hope. For Sanho now, Polaris is Munju.

The irony of the St. Anthony necklace
A few episodes back, Munju returned the St. Anthony necklace to Sanho after wiretapping it. Unbeknownst to her, someone else was listening to the recordings and was waiting for the right moment to share it to the media to tarnish her reputation.
Sanho, unaware that it was Munju all along, angrily looks for a bug inside their hideout but to no avail. He decides to go to Ethan (Christopher Gorham) thinking he was the one responsible for leaking the recordings. The NIS, led by Yoo Un Hak (Yoo Jae Myung), suddenly barges in declaring Sanho is under arrest for espionage.
He twists the narrative to make it look like Sanho was hired by North Korean leader Kim Hansang to kill Munju. Unhak uses Sanho’s grandmother to threaten him to surrender. While the NIS was beating Sanho up, the St. Anthony necklace broke revealing the bug that Munju put inside.
Both are clearly hurt by the mistake of the other. Munju, by the revelation about Sanho’s motive in approaching her and Sanho, by the realization that Munju truly did not trust him.
The necklace has been passed around between different people and every time it was transferred to another owner, it was given with the intention to serve the same purpose: to keep the owner safe. However, the same necklace ended up being the very same thing that put them in danger.
Munju runs away
After discovering the real reason why Sanho came to her, Munju runs away. Meanwhile, Sanho fights his way back to Munju knowing she must be hurt after hearing everything.
Sanho finally makes it back to their hideout, but it was too late, Munju has already left. Desperate, he wanders around the forest looking for her but in the end he failed. Meanwhile, devastated by the truth and confused where to go Munju burst into tears.
The nuclear submarine exists
Amidst her breakdown, Munju receives a text message saying the North Korean nuclear submarine, the root of all this chaos, is apparently real. She asks who it is that sent the message but only receives a meeting place in reply.
