Munju continues her hunt for truth in Tempest episode 3.
Tempest episode 3 opens with Munju visiting her former mentor Im Dujin (Choi Jong Won), who taught her a lot about North Korea when she was just starting her career as a diplomat. Through their conversation, we get an idea of what Munju and Junik’s marriage was like.
Munju says she wasn’t able to do anything for Junik during their marriage. It seems Munju has a sense of guilt towards her late husband, and to make it up to him, she wants to finish what he started—by taking the same path of running for the presidency.
Now that her candidacy is set in stone, Munju wants Dujin to serve as her mentor again, believing his insights would be valuable in anticipating North Korea’s action and in putting a stop to the impending war.
The Queenmaker
Meanwhile, Okseon begins working her magic to get the media talking about Munju, highlighting her bravery during her encounter with the military soldier who shot Junik. In this way, Okseon stirred the emotions of the masses and made them feel for Munju.
She also eliminates any obstacles in Munju’s political career, even going as far as to send Junsang, her own son, overseas and blackmailing the head of the New Republican Party into endorsing her as their presidential candidate.
Munju lands her triple axel
Okseon designed Munju’s campaign announcement in such a way that she will travel from Gwangju Memorial Park to Seoul by train, and each moment will be broadcast by the media. Okseon’s plan was spotless, and with Sanho renewing his contract with Valkyrie, everything should have been perfect. Munju needs to successfully execute her triple axel.
However, the US sent a bomb technician to plant a bomb on the seat of the train Munju was boarding during the event, causing disruptions to the announcement. Sanho, fearing for Munju’s safety, drove through red lights at full speed and sprinted to the next station just to go to her.
We know about Sanho’s feelings towards Munju, but they are still kept rather vague in the first two episodes. In episode 3, the panic in Sanho’s voice the moment Munju unknowingly sat on the chair with a bomb planted on it tells us how deeply he really cares about Munju.
Sanho manages to switch seats with Munju, saving her from being fatally injured, but at his own expense. Still, without wasting a moment and with blood still dripping on his body, Sanho finds an area where he can monitor the event to ensure there will be no more interference in Munju’s campaign announcement.
Despite everything that happened, Munju finally lands her triple axel with an inspiring impromptu speech. With the confidence of an experienced UN ambassador, Munju announces her candidacy with a promise to fight for “peaceful streets, happy families, a world where people have each other, and a nice cold beer after a long, hard day.”

Sanho becomes Munju’s official bodyguard
Munju, unable to sleep, decides to visit the church fountain. She reaches out to the St. Anthony necklace given to her by Sanho, and at that very moment, he appears in front of her. Munju starts to get even more suspicious of Sanho and asks him why he always appears at the right time. She tries to draw a line between them, saying her team will increase security measures after what happened on the train.
But Sanho is determined to stay by Munju’s side and will go as far as to do a background check to ease her mind. While Munju’s mind tells her to be suspicious towards Sanho, her heart is already starting to open up to him and eventually she agrees to hire Sanho as her bodyguard.
