First day of dating
Meanwhile, at the boys’ hideout, Gijeong is buzzing with excitement, prompting Taeseon to ask him why he’s running on zero sleep and pleading with him to get some sleep. Gijeong, however, stubbornly refuses because dating Uyeon feels like a dream he’s afraid of waking up from. Instead, he channels his energy into boxing, jumping around, and chanting at the top of his lungs that they are dating.
At school, Uyeon shows a sketch of Gijeong to her friends; it turns out she spent all night drawing him. Her friends ask her if she’s sleepy or tired, but she insists she isn’t. Once their classes are over, Uyeon appears distracted, scanning her surroundings as if looking for someone. Her friends tease her, saying she’s like Pavlov’s dog, completely conditioned by Gijeong.
True enough, on her way home, she almost approaches someone who looks like Gijeong. The person turns around, and she realizes it’s not Gijeong. She sighs, debating if she should have contacted him. Lost in her own thoughts, Uyeon suddenly hears Gijeong’s voice. He asks what she’s muttering about and if she’s memorizing English words. Uyeon responds that the one she’s memorizing is him.
Gijeong walks her home, and along the way they talk about all sorts of things like their dreams or plans for the future. Uyeon admits she envies Gijeong’s optimism because she can’t help but worry despite knowing stressing over it won’t change anything. The conversation highlights their contrasting personalities.
Boyfriend meets the brother in Spirit Fingers episode 9
Even with his part-time job keeping him busy, Gijeong makes it a point to walk Uyeon home and spend time with her. When Uyeon tells him he doesn’t need to do it every day, Gijeong smiles and insists that she’s more important than his job.
At the playground, Uyeon opens another conversation about the future. She recalls their earlier conversation and how Gijeong puts her above his own job. She admits she can’t say the same to Gijeong, not because he is less important than studying but because her future depends on it.
Gijeong’s smile falters for a moment, his eyes reflecting a hint of sadness, before immediately comforting Uyeon, saying he believes she will be an incredible person anyway. He pulls Uyeon into a hug until Wu Dol (Ki Eun Yoo) interrupts the moment.
Uyeon panics and pushes Gijeong to the ground. Irritated, he demands to know who Wu Dol is. After hesitantly introducing the two, Uyeon confidently approaches Wu Dol, addressing him as his brother-in-law. Wu Dol ignores him and asks Uyeon to take him away before their mother sees Gijeong.
Back at home, Wu Dol makes it clear he doesn’t like Gijeong and insists that Uyeon break up with him, warning that their mother would scold her again if she insists on dating him. This causes Uyeon to request for Gijeong to lay low and avoid contacting her for the time being, leaving the latter frustrated.
Gijeong’s quest for approval
Determined, Gijeong tries to win Wu Dol over with ice cream treats, but Wu Dol remains unimpressed. Undeterred, he makes several over-the-top attempts, each met with indifference. This series of failures ultimately led to Gijeong challenging him to a capital city quiz. Uyeon warns him that Wu Dol has memorized it since he was three, but Gijeong assures Uyeon that he has a Plan B: meeting secretly. Uyeon apologizes for putting him through this, but Gijeong brushes it off, saying it’s natural because she is precious to him.
Predictably, Gijeong loses. Wu Dol bluntly tells him that he’s not right for Uyeon, explaining how their mother treats her and that if he continues to date Uyeon, it will only get worse. The weight of Wu Dol’s words hits Gijeong hard, and he stops contacting Uyeon.
Worried, Uyeon sends Gijeong a text reassuring him that there’s no need to worry because they still have Plan B and that just as she is special to Gijeong, he is equally special to her. Turns out, Gijeong had been quietly following her all along on the way home, making sure she got home safely while keeping his distance.
They spend more time together at the playground, and Gijeong recounts everything that happened earlier. Although it’s clear the events weighed on him, he tells the story to Uyeon with a playful, carefree tone, as if it were all just fun and games. He boasts that he is Nam Gijeong in response to Uyeon’s statement that her worries were unfounded. Yet, as he walks home, a shadow of doubt crosses his mind, leaving him to wonder if he’s truly worthy of someone as special as Uyeon.
Plan B
Spirit Fingers episode 9 also witnesses Gijeong’s loss forcing the couple to adopt Plan B. With Plan B in motion, Gijeong and Uyeon attempt to meet secretly, but just as Uyeon was about to leave, he insists on coming along to Spirit Fingers’ gathering, making it impossible for Gijeong to attend.
Meanwhile, Wu Dol initially insults the club, but Seonho convinces him to try drawing. Slowly, he becomes more comfortable with the drawing activity, particularly enjoying Seonho’s presence. Noticing that Seonho is a smart guy, he offers him to date Uyeon. Before Seonho can respond, Gijeong appears, asserting himself as Uyeon’s boyfriend.
