In My Girlfriend is the Man! episode 8, which aired on August 14, Ji Hoon falls ill after learning the truth about his grandfather and the family’s secret, and Min Joo cares for him until she falls asleep by his side. Meanwhile, Jeong Ja and Ji Hye realize they both like the same guy, Young Seok.

My Girlfriend is the Man! Episode 8 Recap: Outrunning Deadlines and Boredom

Yoon Jae planned to watch a movie with Ji Hoon and even prepared a feast after learning his parents were on a trip, but their sudden return turned the day into family chaos.

Meanwhile, Yu Ri stopped by the café and ended up chatting with Min Hyuk. Since she was always stuck with deadlines and felt her life was nothing but writing and boredom, Min Hyuk decided to shake things up.

He took her to a field, held her wrist, and urged her to run for 30 minutes, promising to keep giving her fun experiences like this until she started thinking that even a tight deadline was better than the apocalypse.

At the same time, Ji Hoon began reading the book he bought in the previous episode, “Crystal Shoes’ Writing Notes,” which was about writing a web novel. Inspired, he started writing—beginning with his own story.

Ji Hye and Jeong Ja found out that they both like the same guy

Ji Hye, who works as a matchmaker, Jeong Ja became her client, determined to get her a best man ever. But, Jeong Ja said he likes someone and Ji Hye said he also likes someone, even saying she found him again as he was her first love, then they hope for each other the best for their love lives.

Until they received the news of Hong Young Seok’s father’s passing, so they immediately went to him. Ji Hye arrived first at the funeral, followed by Jeong Ja, shocking them both when they saw each other and realized they liked the same guy.

Ji Hye told Jeong Ja not to misunderstand, assuring her that nothing was going on between her and Young Seok, and that she respected Jeong Ja’s relationship with him. However, Jeong Ja sensed Ji Hye’s guilt. She said they were still in the stage of getting to know each other and reminded her that it was up to Young Seok to choose whom he wanted.

Ji Eun may have to live as Ji Hoon for the rest of her life?

Ji Eun’s “grandfather” is revealed to actually be her grandmother, though she never knew and had always addressed her as grandfather. Overhearing the truth, she learns that there’s a strong possibility she may never return to her original gender and could be forced to live as a man—as Ji Hoon—for the rest of her life, just like her grandmother. Overwhelmed, she breaks down in tears.

Later, Min Joo saw Ji Hoon sick outside his house. She quickly brought him inside and stayed by his side. In his sleep, Ji Hoon cried, “I don’t want to live like this,” while holding her hand. Min Joo eventually dozed off, and Yoon Jae walked in to find them asleep next to each other.

They eventually woke up, surprised to find themselves next to each other. Thinking the other was making a move, they ended up fighting.

My Girlfriend is the Man! episode 9, airing on August 20, teases Yoon Jae, Ji Hoon, Min Joo, Min Hyuk, and Yu Ri as they go fishing. During the trip, Yoon Jae admits to Min Joo that he never had feelings for her, but she gives him a cheek kiss. When the others find out, Ji Hoon doesn’t get angry like Ji Eun would—leaving Yoon Jae questioning it.
