In My Girlfriend Is the Man! episode 5, which aired on August 6, Min Joo’s open interest in Yoon Jae stirs jealousy and rivalry with Ji Hoon, while Yu Ri and Ji Hoon have a minor quarrel over the growing possibility of her developing feelings for him after he pretends to be her boyfriend at a birthday party.

My Girlfriend is the Man! Episode 5 Recap: Breaking Orbit
Min Joo and Yoon Jae chat over coffee to thank her for bringing him to the hospital, and she directly asks about his relationship with Ji Hoon, hinting it might be more than just friendship. When she reveals Ji Hoon called himself Yoon Jae’s girlfriend, Yoon Jae spits out his drink in shock—right as Ji Hoon walks by and bursts out laughing.
But as Yoon Jae wipes Min Joo’s face, Ji Hoon storms over, clearly jealous. Sensing the tension, Yoon Jae quickly diffuses it by inviting Ji Hoon to join them at the malatang place Min Joo had mentioned.

Min Joo vs. Ji Hoon over Malatang
Ji Hoon and Min Joo cling to Yoon Jae on the way to the malatang restaurant, squabbling nonstop over who gets the seat beside him. Fed up with their petty rivalry, Yoon Jae simply switches sides. But what began as a childish seating dispute soon escalates into a fiery showdown—both determined to outdo the other by drowning their bowls in spicy malatang sauce.
Later, Yoon Jae brings Ji Hoon—who’s still suffering from the spice—to a café, deliberately leaving Min Joo out. There, Ji Hoon, clearly jealous, admits he doesn’t like her and doesn’t think Yoon Jae should be spending time with her.

Yu Ri wants Ji Hoon to be her boyfriend
After another failed blind date, Yu Ri gets drunk and complains about always being single. Ji Hoon and Yoon Jae walk her home. On the way, she jokes that Ji Hoon should be her boyfriend now that Ji Eun is a man, saying she could love Ji Eun no matter how she looks.
Ji Hoon later tells Yu Ri that if he turns back into a woman, he’ll be Yoon Jae’s girlfriend again.

Ji Hoon introduced himself as Yu Ri’s boyfriend
Yu Ri attends her co-writer friend Min Ah’s birthday—the same friend behind her string of failed blind dates. Ji Hoon later crashes the party, introducing himself as Yu Ri’s boyfriend to get back at Min Ah. But afterward, he confesses to Yu Ri that they’re not actually dating—just that he’s had a crush on her for the past 10 years.
After the party, Yu Ri breaks down and says that even Ji Hoon—like everyone else—must pity her for being single all her life. Struggling with her growing feelings, she blurts out, “What would you do if I fell for you and confessed my feelings? I’m trying so hard not to fall for you.”
Ji Hoon, visibly sorry, responds, “Whenever I’m with you, I keep forgetting what I look like now.” But Yu Ri still walks away.

Episode 5 ends with Min Joo showing up to see Yoon Jae, wearing Ji Eun’s hairstyle after spotting a photo of her and Yoon Jae in a book left at the restaurant. Moments later, Ji Hoon arrives, sees them together, and breaks down in tears.

My Girlfriend Is the Man! episode 6, airing on August 7, teases rising tension as Min Hyuk grows suspicious of Min Joo and Yoon Jae, with Min Joo constantly showing up. Meanwhile, Yu Ri and Ji Hoon are pushed to kiss in front of everyone—including Yoon Jae and Min Hyuk.
