In Your Radiant Season Episode 5 Recap: Confessions and Memories in Gyeongju
In Your Radiant Season episode 5 begins with Ha-ran asking Chan about his comment to his grandmother that he shouldn’t like her. He explains that he didn’t want to make her uncomfortable. On the way to their villa in Gyeongju, they stop at a scenic bridge to enjoy the view. Ha-ran confesses that she lost her parents on the first snowfall and dislikes those days, then tries to ask about his mother, but Chan quickly changes the subject.
At the villa, Chan introduces Ha-ran to the animation team. The next morning, Ha-ran’s team arrives, and everyone gets to work before going sightseeing in the village of Yangdong. While Ha-ran wonders about Chan’s past, a flashback reveals he left South Korea for Florence, where he decided to pursue drawing.

During lunch, Chan playfully takes eggplant from Ha-ran’s plate, calling it “neon aliens,” and Ha-ran realizes she never told him that, though she dismisses it as a memory lapse. Later at the beach, Ha-ran notices a plane’s vapour trail and talks about a trip to the US, which triggers some of Chan’s memories, though he cannot fully piece them together yet.
Fragments of Chan’s Memories
Back in Seoul, Na-na quickly changes her outfit after a fall, hiding the incident from Ha-young and the others. Meanwhile, Ha-dam spots You-gyum leaving a jewelry shop and assumes he bought couple rings for them. In reality, he purchased a necklace with an SOS phone number for Na-na to wear, just in case. At school, Ha-dam’s friend teases her, suggesting that You-gyum’s gift might have been for So-ra.
After work, Na-na meets Mr. Park, who shows her an LP of La Vie en Rose he bought for her years ago in Chuncheon. However, she had already used her tuition money to fly to Paris for medical school. In Gyeongju, Chan and the team prepare to head back.
But Ha-ran forgets her scarf and returns to the woods to look for it. Chan follows, and they get caught in a sudden downpour, taking shelter until the rain stops. Ha-ran admits she is curious about Chan’s past, but he says he wants to keep that part of himself private.

That night, the team hosts a beach barbecue, and Ha-ran has a few drinks. Chan wonders if he should finally tell her the truth. He challenges her to a quick game: if she wins, he will reveal his secret. Ha-ran wins but passes out before he can speak, revealing she’s a lightweight.
Later, a fragment of Chan’s memories returns. A flashback shows Hyeok-chan injuring his hand, and Chan recalls that the jingling sound he heard came from a woman’s bracelet—Hyeok-chan had been cheating on Ha-ran with a woman named Su-jin. Waking up, Chan realizes the pain Ha-ran will still face and feels the weight of what’s to come.

The Iridescent Cloud
In the morning, Chan takes Ha-ran for a walk. She recalls their game but tells him he doesn’t need to share his past if he doesn’t want to. Still, he opens up about the person who helped him heal, saying she broadened his world. He adds that he avoids old wounds to protect her happiness.
Back home, Ha-young notices that Tae-suk had removed the green onions for her while they were eating tteokbeokki. She dismisses it upon learning that he also cares for his grandmother with vitamins and gives his sister tonic. Soon, Ha-ran and her team prepare to return to Seoul.
Chan points out an iridescent cloud, explaining that it excites him about the future, unlike vapour trails that remind him of the past. He gives Ha-ran a film camera as homework, asking her to capture one nice photo every day until he returns.
Back at the office, Ha-ran surprises everyone by bringing coffee and chatting with her colleagues. In the lift, Ha-young encounters Tae-suk, who offers her a sweet-and-sour candy. A flashback shows young Tae-suk receiving the same candy from Ha-young at the atelier before his interview with Na-na. Meanwhile, Ha-dam speaks with You-gyum and dismisses her suspicions about So-ra, but So-ra is seen calling You-gyum’s phone soon after.
Unexpected Goodbyes in In Your Radiant Season Episode 5
Ha-ran struggles with a creative block in her work. Chan sends her a photo of the iridescent cloud, which sparks a new idea. She designs an outfit for Won using mother-of-pearl colors inspired by the cloud, delighting Na-na with the result. Meanwhile, You-gyum visits Na-na again, bringing a health drink and checking on the bruise on her leg, along with the SOS necklace.

Still in Gyeongju, Chan calls Ha-ran to tell her he’s reserving a pizza place for the next full moon. Over the following days, they text frequently, and Ha-ran takes photos of things that make her happy. She confides in Mr. Park that she has rediscovered the joy in small moments. On the day of their pizza date, Chan drives back to Seoul, narrowly avoiding a swerving truck.
Back in Seoul, Na-na calls Ha-ran, asking her to take over the business as she plans to retire and move to France. Ha-ran then notices missed calls from Chan and rushes to the coffee shop, where Mr. Park explains that Chan had to suddenly return to the US. Heartbroken, Ha-ran develops her film and discovers that Chan had captured her laughing during their trip. The final photo shows Chan smiling at the camera, leaving her with a bittersweet memory.
