Bon Appétit, Your Majesty Episode 9 Recap: Ji-Yeong’s Skills Outshine a Hypocritical Chief Envoy

Bon Appétit, Your Majesty episode 9 started with the score reveal for round two. Although King Lee Heon and Ji-Yeong hoped for fairness, the chief envoy from the Ming Dynasty did not deliver it. Even though he seemed to enjoy what Joseon’s cooks made, he gave them a score of 1, while King Lee Heon awarded the Ming side an 8.

Outraged, Lee Heon called out the envoy’s hypocrisy and suggested letting chefs score their own work, but both sides refused. Eventually, Lee Heon declared the round a tie. That night, Ji-Yeong and Lee Heon shared a quiet moment. It is an emotional pause before the final round’s storm. It was sweet and worthwhile as the feelings of King Lee Heon for Ji-Yeong became more evident.

In addition, round three centered on a chicken dish challenge. Ji-Yeong prepared ogolgye samgyetang, a chicken with ginseng broth, but the pressure cooker lid hadn’t arrived. Just when it seemed things would fall apart, the inventor Jang Chun-saeng arrived with the lid in a makeshift airplane.

Meanwhile, the Ming chefs utilized rare ingredients such as deer tendon, lion’s mane mushroom, and sea cucumber. When the royals tasted Ji-Yeong’s dish first, they were moved, then cleared their bowls at the Ming’s offering. Many expected a tough fight, but the results showed Joseon narrowly ahead: 28 points to 27, meaning Ji-Yeong and her team won.

With his bluff exposed, the envoy begged for mercy. But the drama surged as Ji-Yeong was later accused when little Prince Jin-myeong fell ill after eating, and she found herself imprisoned and tortured, leaving viewers with a shocking cliffhanger.
