Bon Appétit, Your Majesty Episode 8 Recap: Ji-Yeong Faces Her Ultimate Test Against the Ming Chefs

Bon Appetit, Your Majestyepisode 8 began with the long-awaited first round of the cooking battle between the Ming and Joseon chefs. The challenge required both sides to present a meat dish never seen before. Ji-Yeong and her team worked on braised pork ribs. On the other hand, the Ming team went with diced chicken.

Just when things seemed steady, Ji-Yeong’s group was thrown off after realizing their gochugaru, or chili powder, had gone missing. Without it, Ji-Yeong quickly improvised and transformed her dish into a beef bourguignon, a heartfelt creation she tied to her late mother.

Meanwhile, Ya Feixiu shocked everyone when she revealed her dish, kung pao chicken. She introduced a sauce made from chili powder. Suspicious, Ji-Yeong asked to taste it and confirmed her fear that their missing ingredient had been used. Ya Feixiu claimed she obtained it fairly through a trade with Prince Je-San. This revelation stirred conflict among the Ming cooks themselves, leading Tang Bailong to declare the round unfair. Ultimately, the royals declared the first stage a tie, which made the stakes for Joseon far more intense since another tie or a loss could result in their complete defeat.

The second round raised the stakes further as Ji-Yeong chose Peking Duck to impress the Ming envoy. During the cooking, Chef Maeng deliberately injured himself, forcing Gil-Geum to take over carving duties. In the end, Bailong presented Golden Lotus temple food. He revealed that it is a dish influenced by his years in Joseon. In addition, Ji-Yeong’s duck proved to be a masterpiece that even moved Yu Kun to tears. The scores were written, but the episode ended before the results were revealed, leaving viewers on edge.
