That Summer Episode 9 Recap: Lava became a stranger to Prince Davin

After Victor shoots Wave in episode 8, Lava rushes him to the hospital, furious and determined to make the gunman pay. He and Tum track down the hotel staff they interrogated in episode 4 and demand Victor’s whereabouts—prompting Lava to lash out and punch him the moment he sees him.

Later, when Lava returns to the hospital, Wave finally wakes up. But he has lost all memories from the three months on the island, including everything he shared with Lava. Wave no longer exists—only Prince Davin.

As the people around him reintroduce themselves to the prince and explain how Peng and Lava cared for him—and how he and Lava became a couple—Lava struggles to hide his heartbreak, seeing that his boyfriend doesn’t remember him at all.

I don’t remember anything at all. I don’t feel anything for you. To me, you’re just a stranger now.

Soon after, Lava and Wave confront Victor. He insists he only followed his father’s orders to hurt Davin and pleads for another chance.

Davin steps forward and reminds Victor that he once trusted him completely, only to be betrayed. He warns that trust isn’t given easily and, once broken, can never be regained. Then Davin turns to Lava, letting him decide Victor’s fate.

Lava tries to bring back Wave’s memories

After the chaos, Lava quickly contacts the people in Arantha to report what happened. They promise to send someone to pick up Prince Davin soon and assure him that Davin’s family is safe.

While waiting, Lava continues caring for Davin, even though he remembers nothing. Davin notices Lava’s efforts, but the distance between them remains.

Later, Tum and Kratae advise Lava that to help Davin regain his memories, he must make him relive what Wave once felt and experienced. They believe this could trigger forgotten emotions and memories. Taking their advice, Lava puts his plan into action, guiding Prince Davin through every moment Wave lived and every memory they once shared.

Over the next few days, Lava urges Prince Davin to work to repay the effort, care, and money he spent on him—just as he once asked Wave. They visit the people Wave knew and revisit the places he and Lava shared, hoping to trigger Davin’s memories.

But nothing changes. Before walking away and leaving Lava alone, Davin says:

I don’t know what Wave felt for you, but I’m Davin. I know you’re trying, but I can’t be Wave for you. That’s all in the past. You should focus on what’s in front of you now.

Lava and Tum compile Wave’s memories in a video

Heartbroken, Lava goes out drinking with Tum and Kratae. As they talk, Lava is on the verge of giving up, until Tum tells him he still has videos of Wave. Together, they compile the clips into a short film for Davin titled “Lava and the Prince,” showing the stories and memories Davin lived through as Wave during those three months.

At the end of the video, Lava says, “See you at Nava Mahasamut,” the name he once gave to Wave—hinting at a place whose meaning only the two of them understand. Lava is nowhere to be seen afterward, hoping Davin will find him there.

The next day, Dao—the pregnant woman from Peng’s public campaign—visits Peng and Wut with her newborn daughter. She asks them to adopt her child, believing they can give her a better life. The newlyweds gladly accept, officially starting their family of three.

Prince Davin looks for Lava as he remembers where Nava Mahasamut might be

After the video, Davin still hasn’t regained his memories, especially the meaning of “Nava Mahasamut,” where Lava might be. While exploring Lava’s room, Davin finds the sketchbook, featuring Wave as the subject, along with the items they once shared, which help him slowly piece together their past.

Meanwhile, Lava waits on the beach where he first found and saved Wave. After hours of hoping, Davin finally arrives. His memories are still blurry, but Lava is happy that Davin found his way there. Davin says, “From what you’ve shown me, Lava and Wave must have shared many good memories.” Lava replies, “It’s a shame I’m the only one who remembers them.” Davin says he’s still trying to remember and just needs more time.

Lava knows Davin will be taken back to Arantha soon, and their time is running out. Still, he promises to help Davin remember as much as possible in the little time they have. Finally, they lean in for a kiss, and in that moment, Davin’s memories start returning more clearly than ever.
