That Summer Episode 5 Recap: Wave wishes to know his real name
The next morning after their intimate night, as Wave and Lava talk about Lava’s name, Wave admits he wishes he knew his real one, saying that “Wave” doesn’t feel like enough. He shares that all he has in life are Uncle Peng and Lava, knowing nothing beyond that. In response, Lava comforts him, expressing hope that someone who loves him will one day come looking for him.
However, Wave remains uneasy, suggesting that the people who hurt him might have also harmed his family, which could be why no one has come for him. Still, Lava reassures him, promising to help uncover his past and encouraging him to cherish the present moment with him instead.
Peng cautions Lava as Wave grows more attached
Later that day, Lava drops Wave off at the school to teach piano while he helps Peng with his campaign posters for village chief. During their work, Peng warns Lava to be careful with Wave, explaining that everything is still new to him. He points out that Wave easily grows attached to those who treat him kindly and that, right now, Lava is the most important person in his life.
Meanwhile, Wave visits Aomsin’s house after the boy skips their piano class. There, he learns that Aomsin’s father forbids him from studying music, believing there’s no future in it. However, Wave defends the boy’s passion, insisting that Aomsin has real talent and potential.
When Lava later arrives to pick him up, he scolds Wave for getting too involved. Wave argues that parents shouldn’t dictate their child’s life or stop them from pursuing their dreams. In contrast, Lava responds that poor families can’t afford to prioritize art when survival comes first—but Wave remains firm that everyone deserves the freedom to choose their own path.

Wut pushes Peng to be braver about their relationship
Meanwhile, a new doctor named Mai arrives on the island, immediately stirring Peng’s jealousy as Mai seems to be hitting on Dr. Wut, who’s still upset from the previous episode. Later, while they have lunch together, Peng brings up how the new doctor appears interested in Wut, but Wut simply brushes it off.
Feeling uneasy, Peng reminds him that he already has a boyfriend, to which Wut bitterly replies, “Why do I feel like I don’t have one at all?” He admits he’s tired of being kept a secret and has only grown used to the situation, warning Peng that he’s unsure how much longer he can endure it.
The tension rises as Peng insists Wut should understand his situation, but Wut counters, saying that while he knows Peng comes from a pressuring family, now that Peng is free, he should be braver—especially when it comes to their relationship.
Lava distances himself from Wave
Meanwhile, back at home, Wave tells Lava that the island’s beauty—the sunsets, the atmosphere, and its charm—makes him feel content, saying he might not need to know who he really is anymore because he’s already happy. However, after Peng’s warning, Lava starts to distance himself from Wave. Even when Wave tries to get close and flirt with him, Lava pulls away.
During the candle procession at the temple, Lava finally tells Wave they need some distance. Confused and hurt, Wave asks if Lava is angry with him and why they suddenly have to stay apart. Lava explains that Wave is becoming too attached, and since he’s still struggling with his own emotions, he can’t handle someone else’s feelings right now. He insists they should focus on finding Wave’s way back home instead.
The conversation quickly turns into a heated argument, ending with Wave storming off in anger.

Peng and Wut rekindle their relationship
Upset, Wave drowns his sorrows at Honey Bar instead of going home. Meanwhile, Peng finds Lava at their house and gives him advice once more—or perhaps to himself—saying, “If you meet someone who makes you feel good, follow your heart. Don’t overthink it. He might not wait for you forever.” Encouraged by Peng’s words, Lava sets out to find Wave.
Later, Dr. Wut surprises Peng, who’s been feeling down and insecure about losing him, especially with the new doctor, Mai, showing interest. As they talk, Peng admits feeling like he might deserve to lose Wut. However, Wut reassures him that their long relationship means far more than a brief connection with someone new.
Peng confesses he’s scared, and Wut responds that he sometimes gets angry so Peng will know he still has feelings, not just quietly accepting everything. Relieved, Peng tells Wut he has every right to get mad, acknowledging how patient Wut has been with him. He then promises to do better, asking to stay at Wut’s resort for the night, saying, “Call it a small step, but I promise I’ll take a bigger, steadier one next time.”

Lava confesses to Wave, and Wave confronts him
Lava chases after Wave, who stubbornly refuses to go home and dares him to prove that he truly feels nothing. Their heated exchange is briefly interrupted by Honey, but Wave still decides to stay behind and hides from Lava.
Worried, Lava softens his voice and says he didn’t mean to yell or scold Wave, adding,
But I think I really do have feelings for you. I’ve started falling for you. But I don’t want you to fall too deep for me because I’m a jerk. I don’t want to hurt you.
Moments later, Wave steps out and confronts him, saying he wants to experience life on his own—pain, love, and all—and asks Lava why he’s deciding how he should live his life:
Don’t say it’s because you care—you’re just scared. You’re scared that you’ll love me. You’re scared you’ll get hurt. You’re scared that one day I’ll forget you. You act tough on the outside, but deep down, you’re lonely as hell. You protect me because it makes you feel valued, like someone in this world actually needs you.
Then, Lava admits, “You know me better than I do,” before pulling Wave in for a kiss. Finally, the two head home together, finding comfort in each other’s arms and cherishing the present moment—and the days that follow.
Lava Names Wave ‘Nava Mahasamut’
In the following days, Lava and Wave visit the same shore where Lava rescued Wave. Remembering Wave’s earlier wish to know his real name, Lava gives him one—Nava Mahasamut. He explains that Nava means “boat,” while Mahasamut means “ocean.” Delighted, Wave says, “Nava goes well with Lava,” before adding,
A boat floating in the ocean until one day it crashes onto an island with a volcano—that’s how Nava met Lava.
The episode 5 ends with the people of Arantha discovering that Prince Davin (Wave) is still alive. Furious that Victor failed to complete his mission, they decide to send another man to the island to finish the job.
