That Summer Episode 4 Recap: Wave Plays the Piano Again

Lava wants to dig into Peng and Dr. Wut’s relationship, hoping to use it against his uncle for being tough on him. Meanwhile, Wave confronts Lava about their kiss, saying it felt strange, but Lava brushes him off and pretends he didn’t hear him.

Later, Wave wanders into the music and recreation room and finds a child playing the piano. He advises the child to improve his technique, then sits down to play “Für Elise” by Beethoven. Impressed, the child asks Wave to teach him, while Lava watches from the side, playfully pressing random keys.

As Wave plays, he says, “Somehow, my memories feel connected to the piano,” and asks Peng for permission to teach the child, explaining that even if he can’t recall everything, his hands still remember every note.

Remembering Dr. Wut’s words—“Your memory might come back when you reconnect with familiar things”—Peng agrees to consult the school principal. Eventually, Wave begins teaching the child piano.

Lava and Wave sneak on Peng and Dr. Wut while they are on a secret date

At the shore, Peng and Dr. Wut share a tender moment. Peng mentions that a friend will visit, but when Dr. Wut says he wants to meet this friend since he’s never met anyone in Peng’s life except Lava, Peng brushes it off, saying it’s unnecessary.

Meanwhile, Lava and Wave, who are supposed to be cleaning the boat, secretly follow them and end up catching the couple kissing. Suddenly, Lava spots a big spider on Wave’s shoulder, and when it crawls inside his shirt, Wave panics and runs straight in front of the couple, exposing them.

Peng realizes they followed him and gets angry. Lava then confronts him, asking why he has to hide his relationship and telling him there’s no need to sneak around. But Peng fires back, saying he can do whatever he wants. Lava pushes further, asking if Dr. Wut is okay living like that and if Peng plans to keep him a secret forever. Peng ignores him and leaves with Dr. Wut.

Wave gets mad at Lava after he says their kiss meant nothing

Back at home, Wave confronts Lava about how openly he admits to liking men. Lava shrugs it off, saying it’s not a big deal and he doesn’t need anyone’s approval. Wave pushes back, insisting it is a big deal for some people.

Later, Wave brings up their kiss again. Lava tells him he only did it because Wave seemed tense and needed to relax. When Wave asks what the kiss meant, Lava casually compares it to a one-night stand.

The comment stings, and Wave grows visibly upset. The next day, when Lava picks him up from school, they end up getting accidentally locked inside the library. While waiting for Tum—who’s too busy flirting and filming with Kratae—to rescue them, the two pass the time reading and bickering.

Lava finally asks if Wave is angry. Wave snaps that Lava treats people’s feelings like a game. Lava admits he just wanted to see if Wave liked men—and if he liked him. Wave says he does like men, but not Lava. Just as they lean in for another kiss, Tum barges in and ruins the moment.

Dr. Wut is getting tired of his secret relationship with Peng

While waiting for Peng’s friend to arrive, Lava apologizes to Peng for snooping on his relationship with Dr. Wut, explaining that he just wanted to tell him, “You can live freely, there’s no need to hide anymore.” However, Peng reminds him that not everyone can be as bold as he is about their identity. Then, Peng’s friend Korn, an archaeologist, arrives.

Later in the episode, Korn teases Peng, asking if he’s dating someone and if he’s still embarrassed. Peng insists he’s not and is just waiting for the right time, but Korn replies, “With me, you made me wait until I couldn’t take it anymore. That’s why I broke up with you,” and advises Peng to live freely without worrying about others.

Right then, Dr. Wut shows up, and Peng introduces him to Korn merely as “a doctor.” Later, feeling uneasy, Peng visits Dr. Wut to check if he’s upset—turns out, he is. Dr. Wut admits he’s jealous of Korn, knowing Korn is Peng’s ex, and points out that Peng can go out openly with his ex but not with him, his current boyfriend.

Dr. Wut tells Peng he’s tired of keeping their relationship a secret. “I think I’m worn out,” he says, adding that Lava seems to understand him more than his own boyfriend, referring to what Lava said earlier in the episode.

Lava and Wave confront the suspicious hotel staff

When Lava and Peng pick up Korn, Lava notices the same hotel staff member Wave found suspicious in episode 3 approaching a pickup truck—the same one that had sped past them earlier—making him even more uneasy.

Later that night, Lava and Wave sneak into the hotel to investigate. They find the room the staff came from and discover a bag that looks like Davin’s (Wave’s) bag. Suddenly, the staff returns, forcing them to hide under the bed. When they’re discovered, a struggle breaks out. Lava nearly gets killed, but Wave knocks the man out with a vase. They tie him up to stop him from escaping.

Eventually, they learn that the staff had stolen the bag from Wave’s room and burned its documents. In the end, they decide to let him go, with Wave reasoning that turning him in to the police wouldn’t help him recover his memories anyway.

Lava and Wave had their first night together

Lava later thanks Wave for saving his life, confessing,

If I hadn’t been hot-headed and sharp-tongued, my dad would still be here with me. Every time I try to help someone, I always end up getting screwed.

Wave comforts him, telling him not to blame himself. Later, Wave also thanks Lava for saving him in return.

As their conversation deepens, Lava admits he envies Wave for having no memories, saying it’s like “hitting a restart button.” But Wave disagrees, explaining,

Being alone, not knowing where I come from or having anyone in my life, is worse. I want to have memories I can look back on—good or bad—they help me understand who I am now.

Despite their heartfelt talk, Wave still feels hurt that Lava claimed to feel nothing after their kiss. Frustrated, he kisses Lava again—and they end up spending an intimate night together.
