Moment of Pride and Rage in Memoir of Rati Episode 7
Memoir of Rati Episode 7 opens with Thee and Rati talking about Rati’s return to France. In six months, Rati is set to go back to his family. Thee then promises that as long as Rati is in Siam, he’ll take the best care of him.
Rati worries about what will happen between them, but Thee assures him that as long as they do their best, there will be no regrets. Moved by his words, Rati allows Thee to take care of him during those six months.
After their conversation, Thee asks Rati to come with him to the Ministry of Education. When they arrive, Rati nervously asks if it’s good or bad news. His face is filled with worry—until Thee confirms that it’s good news.
It turns out Rati has been officially declared Viscount Rati Jarupich, as published in the Royal Gazette. The title was granted by His Majesty. Rati asks Thee about the meaning of his name: Rati for affection and pleasure, Jaru for elegance, and Pich for intelligence. A beautiful name, indeed.
Rati is congratulated by his students, but his uncle, Lord Ruj, throws another fit. He accuses Rati of looking down on him now that he’s a Viscount and reminds him that, title or not, he’s still the son of a maid.
His verbal abuse escalates into violence when he punches Rati. Thee, Dech, and Prince Mai intervene. Prince Mai firmly declares that Lord Ruj’s actions are unacceptable and should be punished by law.

The Powerful and the Powerless
Memoir of Rati episode 7 convicts those who have no power and favor those who do. In this episode, Lord Ruj is seen physically and verbally abusing Rati. His status as a Lord seems to give him a free pass for his unjustifiable actions.
Even Rati’s biological mother, Buaphan, experiences his wrath. Lord Ruj physically abuses her for being a maid and for being Rati’s mother. Fortunately, Dech arrives just in time to stop his father from hurting her further.
Later, Thee and Rati are shown talking. Thee tells Rati that he can’t keep letting his uncle hurt him. “Law is law,” Thee says, “and everyone—even those in power—must abide by it.”
Prince Mai shares the same view. If Rati persists in overlooking his uncle’s misconduct, it will continue to occur.
This part of Memoir of Rati episode 7 mirrors reality, especially the moment where Lord Ruj hurts Buaphan. In our society, those in power often see themselves as above the law, while the powerless are the ones constantly oppressed and abused.
Mek’s Sacrifice for His Mother
Mek is in pain from his Muay Thai fights, but he doesn’t seem to care. Even though Dech tells him to see a doctor, he refuses. Mek tells Dech that after just a few more fights, he’ll be able to reclaim his mother’s land.
While walking around, Dech overhears someone saying that Mek plans to deliberately lose a Muay Thai match. Shocked, Dech rushes to find Mek and begs him not to throw the fight. But Mek insists that if he doesn’t, he’ll never get the land back.
Inside the ring, Mek fights for a few minutes. Then, deliberately, he lets his opponent hit him. Dech tries to run to him, but others hold him back. In seconds, Mek is knocked out—his face bloodied.
Dech takes him to the hospital. When Mek regains consciousness, he seems unable to hear anything. Possibly due to the severe blows he received, his hearing is affected. Panicked, Mek runs away from Dech.
Watching this entire scene broke my heart. I saw a son doing everything to fulfill the promise he made to his mother. When the scene shifts to Mek finally receiving the deed to his mother’s land, I couldn’t help but feel the same agonizing relief.
Like a sigh of fulfillment—Mek kept his promise. But at what cost? This moment is another harsh reminder of how someone’s social status can shape the course of their life.

A Parent’s Love in Different Ways
In the previous episodes, we saw Rati longing for the love of his biological mother. But in this episode, we’re given a new perspective on Buaphan.
After finding out that Rati became a Viscount, Buaphan couldn’t hide her happiness. Even I didn’t understand her before—but seeing her smile because of her son’s success made me realize something: she never stopped loving Rati. She just had her own way of showing it.
Maybe letting Rati get adopted seems selfish to some. But for Buaphan, it might have been the best decision. Given their situation, letting him go could have been her way of giving him a better life.
Thee’s father, on the other hand, also had his own way of expressing love. It was subtle, but his words were telling. During their conversation, he asked Thee if he was ready to face the consequences of his choices.
That moment wasn’t just a father questioning his son—it was a silent reassurance, a gentle reminder that he would stand by Thee, no matter what. Some parents are expressive. Others are quiet. But one thing remains true: their love endures—even in silence.
Is Our Love Impossible from the Start?
Despite Rati and Thee’s promise to stay together, doubts keep creeping in. After Lady Pa’s conversation with Rati, she left him with a lingering question: Is Rati truly the better choice than her?
That conversation must’ve struck something in Rati. He suddenly brought up Thee’s engagement and insisted he go through with it. Rati didn’t want their relationship to taint Thee’s name.
Instead of taking it as rejection, Thee saw it as Rati’s way of expressing love. But Rati was serious—he believed that love between two men was impossible. Thee’s response, though, hit hard:
It shouldn’t be wrong to be true to one’s self.
That line wasn’t just about love—it was a bold declaration of identity. Thee didn’t love Lady Pa, and he couldn’t force a lifetime with someone he didn’t love.
In a powerful gesture, Thee took Rati to the deity at Mai Maan Shrine and made a vow: he would only love and cherish Rati for the rest of his life—even if it cost him everything.
Their love may be hidden now, but Thee’s resolve makes one thing clear: someday, they’ll be able to share that love freely.
