Memoir of Rati Episode 5: Rati and Thee After Their Reconciliation

During episode 4 of Memoir of Rati, the latter part showed how Rati and Thee finally reconciled. After countless efforts by Thee to convince Rati to forgive him, he finally succeeded.

Memoir of Rati episode 5 opens with Rati having a dream where his mother denies him as her son. He wakes up with the same agonizing and melancholic feelings he had back then.

The next morning, Rati goes to the bridge near the lake to offer alms to the monk. He was supposed to go with Jam, but Thee suddenly appears by his side. Unsure of how to properly greet the monks, Rati listens as Thee guides him.

Thee advises him to clear his mind and let go of his worries. He also guides Rati through the prayer while they wait for the monk.

After the offering, Thee introduces Som Chun, a palace dessert, to Rati. Together with Jam, Kui, and Mhay, the two of them happily try to make the dessert. They make their own syrup, and once it fully simmers, Rati chooses the fruits he wants to put in the bowl.

Rati enjoys the dessert, saying it is refreshing. He even jokes that if his heart were a person, it would dance non-stop. Mhay teases him to dance if it’s true, and Rati actually dances in a cute way.

Jam, Kui, and Mhay also try the dessert. While getting their own bowls, Rati teases Thee by feeding him a spoonful of Som Chun. After tasting it, Thee dances cutely too.

The group enjoys their Som Chun together, dancing playfully to show just how delicious it is.

Rati Shared His Worries with Thee

Later, Thee and Rati are alone at the dining table when Thee notices that Rati seems worried about something. As if on cue, Rati opens up about his dream.

He says he still can’t imagine how his own mother disowned him. Thee tries to assure him that his mother’s decision probably hurt her too.

After their conversation about the dream, Rati suddenly blurts out that he will miss Thee once he goes back to France. He also asks Thee if he will miss him too. Thee replies that even when Rati is not around, he already misses him.

Rati gets up from his seat and walks behind Thee. He playfully asks if Thee already misses him since he is now out of Thee’s sight.

Mek and Dech Strike a Deal to Work Together

While cleaning the classroom, Mek finds a book. When he opens it, he discovers French words that were taught in the school. He starts blurting them out, saying them aloud.

Dech watches him silently for a moment before speaking. Mek is startled and quickly tries to leave the room, but Dech follows him to give the book back and lets him borrow it.

Dech asks why Mek wants to learn the language so badly. Mek shares that he was never able to go to school, so listening to classes is the only thing he can do. He doesn’t specifically know why he wants to learn the language, but he says he wants to be smarter.

I think knowing is better than not knowing,” Mek says. He adds that maybe one day he can become a translator or work for the government.

Dech tells him he will lend him the book if Mek teaches him Muay.

Mek agrees and begins teaching Dech, starting with the pomelo stalk step. Their next lesson is the banana tree steel legs, which Dech almost refuses to do. After that, they practice strength building through log pulling.

However, Dech complains that he won’t put up with Mek’s tough training anymore. He starts to get leg cramps, and Mek helps him ease the pain, telling him he needs to work on his core strength.

Dech accuses Mek of pranking him by making the training so hard. But Mek says he wouldn’t dare because, in his eyes, Dech is literally an angel in his life. That unexpected praise makes Dech smile a little.

Lent Day: Where Rati and Thee’s Feelings Bloomed

During Lent Day, Rati feels hesitant to go with Thee. He overhears Jam and Kui talking about how the festival is usually attended by couples. Aside from that, Rati believes that Thee should go with his fiancée, not him.

Meanwhile, Jam respectfully kneels in front of Thee when he asks where Rati is. She urges Thee to think it through before inviting Rati again, not wanting them to end up in a difficult situation.

In response, Thee also kneels, firmly telling Jam that his intentions toward Rati are pure.

After their conversation, Rati finds Thee at the French legation, where guards have a gun pointed at him. Rati assures the guards that Thee isn’t a trespasser, allowing him to enter the house. Once inside, Thee tells Rati that he will wait for him, hoping Rati will agree to go with him to offer lotus flowers. However, Rati still has work to finish.

As the night deepens, the two eventually go looking for lotuses to make an offering. Luckily, they find two lotus flowers in the lake and pick them up.

But amidst the offering, Rati hesitates. He tells Thee that it’s not supposed to be him accompanying Thee—it should be Thee’s fiancée.

Thee assures Rati that he only wants him by his side. He also clarifies that the engagement is something only his grandmother wants.

Rati expresses his worry that if someone sees them together, Thee’s reputation will be ruined. But Thee, fully determined, says that it doesn’t matter to him. He even asks Rati if he has ever wondered why he isn’t affected by the rumors about him being an invert (gay). Perhaps, Thee hints, it’s because the rumors are true.

Rati replies that it doesn’t matter to him. Whether Thee loves a man or a woman, he will respect him the same way he does now. After hearing this, Thee pulls Rati close and kisses his forehead.
