Vacations releases Pursuit of Anything, an album exploring love, growth, and the search for happiness, alongside the music video for “Lucky, Forever.”
Australian indie-rock band Vacations releases its new album, Pursuit of Anything, through Nettwerk. To celebrate, the band also unveils the music video for “Lucky, Forever,” a heartfelt closing track about love, commitment, and lasting relationships.
“Lucky, Forever”: When Love Inspires a Song
Vacations frontman and songwriter Campbell Burns found inspiration for “Lucky, Forever” in the weddings of bassist Jake Johnson and drummer Joseph Van Lier. Although love songs rarely feature in his songwriting, these experiences gave him a new perspective on the subject.
Burns describes the track as an attempt to write “the most cliched love song” while keeping its message sincere. Instead of adding unnecessary complexity, he focuses on simple, honest emotions. Consequently, “Lucky, Forever” brings the album to a tender and intimate close.
Pursuit of Anything: Chasing Happiness and New Possibilities
Beyond its closing ballad, Pursuit of Anything explores the challenges of growing up, reflecting on the past, and looking toward the future. The album draws from the band’s years of friendship and making music together since their teens. Meanwhile, it examines how each member navigates relationships, ambition, and personal growth along a different path.
For Campbell Burns, the album title represents the continuous search for happiness. He describes it as “a feedback loop,” reflecting how people keep chasing new goals in hopes of finding fulfillment.
Musically, Vacations combines dreamy pop melodies with richer instrumentation and more detailed arrangements. Burns also produces the album, while Beatriz Artola, known for her work with Geese and Caamp, handles the mixing. Together, they create a more expansive sound that balances nostalgic warmth with emotional depth.
Pursuit of Anything captures the contradictions of growing up while celebrating the relationships and experiences that shape us. Through its reflections on love, friendship, and ambition, Vacations delivers a heartfelt album about finding meaning in the journey rather than simply chasing the next milestone.
