New York-based singer-songwriter Loren Berí returns with his new single, “Stagehand,” a dreamy chamber-pop track that explores identity, self-perception, and the freedom of letting go.
Berí combines lush chamber textures with infectious indie songwriting. His music also stands out through imaginative storytelling and a charismatic performance style. In “Stagehand,” he turns inward, exploring what happens when someone stops performing an exaggerated version of themselves and embraces who they really are.
Finding Beauty Backstage
The song centers on a stagehand who mistakenly believes he plays a role in a theatrical production. Instead, he moves the set pieces in the darkness while the real characters wait for their scene to begin.
Berí uses the concept to examine insecurity and the pressure to fit into someone else’s story. Rather than treating this feeling as purely negative, he finds a strange sense of beauty and relief in it.
The track also marks a shift from his previous work. Berí describes his upcoming sophomore album, Stagehand, as the opposite of his earlier project, Alby’s Ghost. While Alby’s Ghost explored a larger-than-life persona, Stagehand strips that character away. It focuses instead on a smaller, more vulnerable version of the self.
A Growing Creative Portfolio
Berí has earned recognition from FLOOD Magazine, Atwood Magazine, 1883 Magazine, TMRW Magazine, Earmilk, Fault Magazine, and Living Life Fearless. His previous collaborations include “Al Pacino” with Glassio and work with Mauro Refosco. He also collaborated with Kishi Bashi on “Greta’s Inn,” which appeared in Fortnite.
Beyond music, Berí has directed television episodes for BRIC TV and holds a degree in Playwriting.
Berí will release Stagehand this year alongside a companion book of poems. He will also celebrate the album with a September 9 performance at National Sawdust, featuring new songs performed with string ensemble Ondine Quartet.
