Have you caught up on Hwang In-Youp’s recently concluded drama Dream To You? His new character, Woo Su Bin, or Director Ian Woo, has a new tragic backstory for us.

The drama tells the story of Joo Yi Jae (Lee Hyeri) and her first love Su Bin, who years later becomes a famous director while she put her own filmmaking dreams on hold after a tragic accident. He comes back to Korea after a successful first film to find Yi Jae and finish the film they wrote together as high school seniors.

1. True Beauty (2021)

Based on the popular Webtoon of the same name, True Beauty tells the story of Lim Joo Kyung (Moon Ga Young), a student who is “ugly” and was bullied for it. After learning makeup techniques, she covers her bare face and transforms into a goddess and her life changes.

In the show, Hwang In-Youp played the infamous Han Seo Joon, the bad boy with a good heart who stole the hearts of everyone back when the show was airing. This was In Yeop’s breakout role, making his name a staple in the industry (as well as making everyone root for him until he finally became the main lead!).

2. The Sound of Magic (2022)

The Sound of Magic starts with a rumor of a crazy magician living alone in an abandoned carnival. Yoon Ah Yi (Choi Sung-eun) is a struggling high school student trying to make it day-by-day while taking care of her sister. But she wonders whether magic really is real when she gets the magician Lee Eul’s (Ji Chang Wook) invitation.

Hwang In-Youp plays Na Il Deung, the love interest of Ah Yi. He starts thinking of her as a rival in math, and ends up fascinated with her.

3. Why Her (2022)

Why Her tells the story of cutthroat lawyer Oh Soo Jae. She gets into trouble when someone commits suicide in a case she was working on. She is ordered to lay low and work as a professor in Seojung University Law School, where she meets student Gong Chan (who Hwang In-Youp portrays), whose character has his own secrets.

4. Family By Choice (2024)

Family By Choice is a remake of the Chinese drama Go Ahead. It tells the story of three children and two dads becoming a family by choice, even if the people around them have a hard time accepting it or try to break them apart. It’s the classic found family trope that will surely warm people’s hearts.

In Youp played Kim San Ha, a kid abandoned by his mom after the tragic death of his sister, which he blames himself for. Ultimately, he falls in love with one of the kids he grew up with, Yoon Joo Won (Jung Chae Yeon), and everyone gets their happy ending.
