Wasia Project unveil “Whale Call,” a heartfelt new single featured in Netflix’s Heartstopper Forever, ahead of their debut album Nocturne.
Alt-pop sibling duo Wasia Project continue building anticipation for their debut album, Nocturne, with the release of their latest single, “Whale Call.” Composed of siblings Will Gao and Olivia Hardy, the duo delivers a deeply emotional ballad that reflects on lost love, memories, and personal growth. The album arrives on September 18 through AWAL Recordings.
“Whale Call” began with a voice memo Olivia recorded when she was 15 years old. Years later, she revisited the idea while writing alone inside a cold church, transforming those early thoughts into a moving composition.
The song reflects on both a lost relationship and the version of herself she left behind. Moreover, its gentle verses gradually build into a soaring, hymn-like finale that echoes the emotional release suggested by its title.
The single follows “2515” and “Bleeding Gold,” which have already earned more than three million combined streams. Together, the releases introduce listeners to the cinematic and emotionally rich world of Nocturne.
From “Heartstopper” to the Global Stage
Alongside its release, “Whale Call” appears in Netflix’s feature film Heartstopper Forever, directed by Wash Westmoreland and written by Alice Oseman. The film stars Joe Locke, Kit Connor, and Wasia Project’s own Will Gao. Furthermore, the placement strengthens the duo’s long-running connection with the “Heartstopper” universe after previous songs “ur so pretty” and “My Vine” appeared in the acclaimed series.
Wasia Project has also brought “Whale Call” to audiences through live performances. The duo recently debuted new material during sold-out piano shows across Asia, including stops in the Philippines and Hong Kong.
Due to overwhelming demand, additional performances were added. In addition, they have announced their biggest UK and European headline tour, scheduled for Autumn 2026.
Nocturne presents a darker and more immersive sound than the duo’s earlier releases. The 12-track album blends classical influences with cinematic piano-pop, atmospheric electronica, modern soul, and dance-inspired production. As a result, the project explores youth, identity, isolation, and human connection with remarkable emotional depth.
