Things are looking very grim for the team in X-Men 97 Season 2 episode 4.
The story is already half its way in X-Men 97 Season 2 episode 4. The remaining X-Men in ancient Egypt must do everything they can to stop En Sabah Nur becoming Apocalypse. Will they succeed?

X-Men 97 Season 2 Episode 4: “Rise of Apocalypse: Part II”
After the events from last week’s season premiere, the X-Men who are still stuck in ancient Egypt must explain themselves. Moreover, En Sabah Nur discovers that they are working something without his knowledge. Feeling betrayal, Nur gives the team a chance to reveal the truth as to why they are in Egypt in the first place.
Meanwhile, the Pharaoh Rama Tut sets plan his escape. If his calculations are correct, what is about to happen is something dark. An event that will change everything, or in this case, something that will always happen.
Avoiding the inevitable
Professor Xavier explains to Nur that they are from the future. He tells him that in their timeline, mutants are all over the world co-existing with the humans. Specifically, they are a team that wants to create a peaceful and harmonious relationship with humankind. Something, to Nur and this timeline, is still a foreign concept.
Nur tells his origins, that as a child his mother abandoned him. Unfortunately, growing up as a survivor of humanity’s mistreatment of him. He shares that he’s having visions of something not from this world, as if it is a calling to him. A destiny awaiting him. The X-Men and Nur find out that this is a doing of a Celestial named Esos. Moreover, they discover in a futuristic more of this Celestial connection, specifically to Nur. They find out, that En Sabah Nur’s path is always to become Apocalypse. The X-Men’s plan of altering that, failed miserably.
Meanwhile, Rama Tut knows of what is coming and he plans to escape this timeline. He tells one of his subjects that he is traveling to another time for him to conquer. Lastly, we get the reveal that he is the time traveling villain known as Kang the Conqueror. MCU fans might familiarize him as he is the main villain of the movie Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania.
“I shall ascend.”
Nur goes into a chamber, and now he becomes Apocalypse. Additionally, the X-Men attempt to stop him, but to no use. Bishop urges everyone to go back to the 90’s but Magneto and Xavier stay behind. Now, what could be one of the most beautifully animated scenes in the whole series, we see Magneto do the best he can to save Egypt. Magneto is one of the most formidable mutants and we see it on full display here. Moreover, we already the feats he can go to, being the a survivor of the Genosha incident. Now, he is at it again facing the wrath of Apocalypse.
Magneto and Xavier fight Apocalypse but he is just too powerful. After a grueling battle both failed. Now, possibly the talk of the whole episode, Apocalypse holds Magneto and disintegrates him out of existence. Yes, Magneto dies. A shocking moment to be sure. Xavier, in a rare showing of anger and rage vows to stop Apocalypse. But, Apocalypse sees Xavier as not a threat and just leaves him behind. Bishop comes back, and brings Xavier back to their timeline.
Final thoughts
This episode is on par with the “Remember it” episode from last season. The show is not afraid to pull its punches here when it comes to killing off major characters. Additionally, reminds us of Game of Thrones. After watching, we are left speechless. Magneto is an integral part of the show and seeing him die hurts way more than we thought. What is the state of mind for Xavier after his oldest friend die right in front of him? Next week cannot come soon enough.
Lastly, there is a post-credits scene. After the shocking ending, this is a good compliment that makes us more hype and curious of what is to come.
