Meg Elsier releases “meaning of life,” a hazy indie-rock track exploring existential thoughts, alongside a cinematic New York-shot video that expands her distinct creative world.

Indie-rock breakout Meg Elsier returns with her new single, “meaning of life,” released April 8 via Bright Antenna Records. The track blends hazy guitars with soft, expressive vocals. Furthermore, her sharp lyricism adds both intimacy and tension, creating a sound that feels personal yet expansive.

meaning of life” is about giving depression company. It’s being fucking tired, stuck in self-sabotage and procrastination, feeling nothing and living vicariously through other people instead. It’s a pretty goddamn selfish song.

meaning of life” explores the strange thoughts that interrupt ordinary moments. Meg reflects on how existential questions often appear at the most unexpected times. Instead of offering clear answers, she embraces uncertainty. The song highlights the tension between searching for purpose and accepting that not everything has an explanation. Ultimately, the track finds comfort in letting go of the need to define everything.

To add, this quiet detachment also shapes the official music video, directed and edited by Jacq Justice. Filmed across New York City, the visuals unfold like cinematic snapshots of everyday life. Each scene captures fleeting moments, allowing emotion and atmosphere to take the lead.

Building a Distinct Creative World

The release follows a busy and defining year for Meg. She shared the expanded edition of her debut album spittake (deluxe) and signed with Bright Antenna Records. Soon after, she toured across the United States with Blondshell and Liz Cooper. She also relocated from Nashville to New York City, marking a new creative chapter.

Meg Elsier made her debut at SXSW, where she performed at nine showcases. In addition, she also appeared at Treefort Music Fest, continuing to expand her growing audience. Since releasing her first full-length project in 2024, she has received praise from outlets such as DIY Magazine, DORK, OnesToWatch, and CLASH for her emotionally honest songwriting and distinctive sound.

Her music balances softness with grit. Airy melodies float over textured guitars, while her self-aware lyrics add depth and personality. Beyond sound, Meg Elsier builds a strong visual identity. She styles most of her videos, photos, and live performances herself. Through fashion and imagery, she strengthens the immersive world that surrounds her music.
