Curious about how the “strongest” in the Jujutsu Kaisen verse came into that title? The Hidden Inventory Arc has the answer to that question.
Satoru Gojo is a very well-loved character in Jujutsu Kaisen franchise. His popularity and esteem is notable enough that even outside the verse, his fans and even casuals know his strength within the universe. Of course, with such OP stats comes a tragic backstory. How exactly did Satoru spend his own school days?
The Hidden Inventory Arc introduces two very important pieces to the puzzle: Riko Amanai and Toji Fushiguro. How did these characters impact Satoru’s character and just how much did they change the trajectory of the plot? Be warned: there are spoilers ahead.

Toji Fushiguro of Jujutsu Kaisen
Toji is an important character because he is the first in the JJK verse to ever make Satoru Gojo question his role in jujutsu society. Dubbed the “Sorcerer Killer”, Toji is tasked with getting rid of the Star Plasma Vessel.

We find out that he is previously from the Zenin clan, that he took his wife’s name, and that he is the father of Megumi Fushiguro. The other things we know about him are context clues: he seems to be popular with women and he is a huge gambler.
Toji has what the JJK verse calls “heavenly restriction,” and it is his sheer strength paired with his cunning that led to Satoru Gojo being stabbed in the throat in the first place.
He also mentions his son Megumi to Satoru at the time of his death, laying down the groundwork for the current timeline.
Riko Amanai
Riko Amanai is the primary reason for Suguru Geto’s loss of faith in the jujutsu society. She gets introduced as a young woman who believes in her role as the Star Plasma Vessel.
At the beginning of Hidden Inventory, Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto are assigned to be her guardians. She must get to Tengen safely and unharmed.

Riko Amanai’s role is significant enough that there are currently bounties on her head. Her arc begins with that belief that slowly gets tested the more time she spends with other people in her arc. We watch as this young girl, originally marked to be nothing but a placeholder, finds her will to live.
Unfortunately, even her decision to not merge with Tengen isn’t enough to save her. Suguru Geto’s descent into madness is accelerated by her fate.
