New York-based collective David Hillyard & The Rocksteady 7 serve with their new album Home For Dinner via Org Music.
David Hillyard & The Rocksteady 7 deliver an album that blends ska rhythms with jazz sensibilities. Standout tracks include the title song “Home For Dinner” and the lead single “Until Then.” Both are available for streaming.
Aside from Hillyard and his band The Rocksteady 7, the record features contributions from other groups. These include The Slackers, The Aggrolites, and Hepcat.
Legendary percussionist Larry McDonald leads the collaborators. Chris Murray, BNegão, and Felipe Machado serve as guest vocalists, while Chiquis Lozoya and the late Greg Lee provide backing vocals. Vic Ruggiero, Mike Sarason and Roger Rivas are in-charge of the keyboard.
This collaboration isn’t new. Hillyard used to be in the California-based ska and reggae band Hepcat. He is also the long-time saxophonist of The Slackers. In 2021, the said band and The Aggrolites even released an album together.
