10 Years Later in Still Shining Episode 4

Still Shining episode 4 opens in 2021, showing Tae-seo working as a programmer at a large multinational company. His life revolves around work, and he spends long nights coding, barely taking time for himself. One day, he visits his parents’ grave and talks about his grandparents and Hui-seo, deliberately keeping his own accomplishments to himself.

The story then jumps to 2025. Tae-seo now works as a train operator and finishes his shift at Dongjak Station—the same place where Eun-a once waited years ago to see the Han River with him. When he returns home, he finds his old friend Hyeong-seok waiting at his apartment, which Tae-seo has transformed into a woodworking studio.

Later that evening, Hui-seo calls and asks Tae-seo to visit their grandparents. Tae-seo casually asks if something at the house needs fixing, but Hui-seo scolds him for only visiting when there is work. She then suggests he should consider getting married, prompting Tae-seo to abruptly end the call.

That night, Tae-seo listens to music on a streaming account he once shared with Eun-a. A sudden notification reveals that Eun-a is still using the account, catching him completely off guard.

Eun-a and Tae-seo Cross Paths

Over the next few days, Tae-seo keeps receiving notifications from the shared music app and gradually realizes that Eun-a has been actively using it. Each alert brings back memories of their past together, stirring emotions he had long buried.

Meanwhile, Eun-a begins a new job managing a homestay. She meets the staff, settles into her room, and explores the neighborhood, making a list of local attractions she can recommend to guests. Later, she visits her friend Ji-seon to pick up a package.

During their conversation, Ji-seon asks about Eun-a’s father and their family guesthouse. Eun-a explains that the guesthouse recently closed, which gave her the confidence to move to Seoul. Their chat is interrupted when Ji-seon’s husband, Seung-jun, returns home drunk. While Ji-seon helps him to bed, Eun-a leaves and takes a walk around the city.

That night, Eun-a passes through Dongjak Station but misses Tae-seo, who is operating the train she just stepped off. She returns home while Tae-seo finishes a woodworking project. The next morning, she begins her duties at the homestay. Later that evening, passing the station again, she suddenly hears Tae-seo’s voice. Realizing he is driving the train, she runs toward the driver’s compartment.

Inside the train, Tae-seo notices her on the CCTV monitor and panics. He is forced to depart as Eun-a runs toward him, leaving him anxious. At the next station, he quickly gets off and boards another train to return to her. Meanwhile, Eun-a receives a call from her friend Ho-sik, informing her that Seong-chan has been looking for her.

When Seong-chan arrives at the station, Tae-seo witnesses Eun-a and him arguing. Eun-a leaves the station without acknowledging Tae-seo. Outside, Seong-chan confronts her about their failed business, accusing her of running away when things became difficult and reminding her that the guesthouse was taken over by people who deceived them. Despite his anger, he eventually tells her to stop blaming herself for what happened.

Tae-seo Revisits the Past

That night, Eun-a returns home, her thoughts lingering on Tae-seo. At the same time, Tae-seo sits in his apartment, unable to stop thinking about her. On his day off, Professor Jeong-su calls and mentions Hui-seo during their conversation. Tae-seo inquires about Eun-a and learns that her family’s guesthouse has already been demolished.

Determined to see the site himself, Tae-seo travels to Yeonwoo-ri and speaks with the workers handling the demolition. They explain that the debris still needs clearing. While in town, he runs into Hui-seo, now working at the local post office. Hui-seo expresses concern about Tae-seo’s sudden visit, reminding him that his last impulsive decision—quitting his MNC job—caused chaos.

Tae-seo ignores the warning and visits his grandparents’ house, where his grandmother Hwa-soon prepares lunch and expresses gratitude for the farm Tae-seo and Hui-seo bought for the family. Before leaving town, Tae-seo stops by a grocery store and asks the shopkeeper to pass along his phone number if Eun-a ever comes by.

Back in Seoul, Tae-seo meets a new woodworking client, A-sol, who requests a wooden frame for a photograph. While discussing design options, A-sol curiously asks about his previous programming job and mentions speaking with Hyeong-seok about him.

She also asks Tae-seo to repair the frame of a large artwork. Later that evening, he visits Hyeong-seok, and the two share a meal and drinks while reminiscing about their lives from ten years ago. On his way home, Tae-seo reflects on the day he decided to quit his programming job, feeling the weight of the choices that shaped his path.

Reconnecting at Dongjak Station

A flashback to 2022 shows Tae-seo learning that he has been transferred to India. Around the same time, Hui-seo informs him that their grandfather Chang-sik has suffered a fall. As Tae-seo reflects on their late mother, who once worked as a train operator, he recalls quitting his job on the same day he received the transfer notice. He chooses to move into an apartment near Dongjak Station, determined not to live farther away from his family.

Returning to 2025, Eun-a receives Tae-seo’s phone number from the woman at the grocery store and decides to call him. Tae-seo initially misses the call while walking home but soon returns it. Their conversation feels awkward as they discuss his new job and Eun-a’s recent argument with Seong-chan. When Eun-a becomes defensive, Tae-seo abruptly ends the call.

The next day, Eun-a’s boss reprimands her for staying in the homestay and insists she find another place to stay while guests occupy the rooms. She apologizes and temporarily moves into a friend’s house. That evening, she goes to Dongjak Station and waits for Tae-seo to finish his shift.

He notices her but walks past without acknowledging her. Eun-a remains inside the station for a long time, eventually breaking down in tears. As she finally prepares to leave, she spots Tae-seo standing nearby. The episode closes with him approaching her and quietly greeting her, reigniting their connection.
